Management
I am feeling discouraged while looking for a new job! I have a good resume with many years of retail management experience. Almost everything I find requires a Bachelor's degree now. I feel defeated when I have so much experience for the requirements listed but that degree is keeping me from being taken seriously. Does it really outweigh years of experience and real life experience so much?

I know exactly how you feel, I've been unemployed for 7 mos. now. I was a Legal Assistant for a law firm for 10 years, but they now want a certification and that was never an issue at the firm I worked, so never got certified. However, I think it is an age issue with me, but I don't feel 46 is old.

I aquired my college degree before I entere into management and it has made a world of difference. With my degree I edged out two people for my current position and the next position I am applying for has a Bachelors requirement and a suggested MBA which I am currently working towards.

Keep your head up patience persistence and timing will win out with a new position for yourself ...stay with it.

Don't get discouraged. There has to be an employer out there that seek individuals like us. Apply anyways. Good luck Stacy.

Hang in there sweet Stacy you will find something .... good luck sweetie !
Listen Stacy I have over 20 yrs working either 2nd & 3rd shifts using Forklifts , Order pickers & Reach trucks and I am being told I don't qualify for a warehouse post!

Hi Stacy! I have a bachelor's degree and paralegal certificate, plus many years of experience. Yet, while trying to pursue and "active" retirement and pay for medical benefits, etc., plus maybe a few comforts, still having problems even getting people to respond. Best of luck.

Don't give up. You'll find something.

Im y opinion no experience always is better than a degree all a degree shows is that you paid money to a college. Hang in there I don't have a degree and I have a gd job you will find one I would still apply even of asking for a degree

Suck it up Buttercup. It's tough out there and nobody is going to hand you anything! You have to go get it and Never give Up! All you need is 1 Yes!
There is definite value in your job/life experience that equates to a college degree. If a position says "Bachelors Degree required," go ahead and apply for it. For the amount of time you have spent in the workforce, you have more than passed that goal. Getting a "degree" for some employers is only to show them that you have endured a 4 year process to get a "sheepskin." Well, I say practical experience, skills and experience outweigh that. I have an Associate degree and did attend a 4 year college but did not graduate so I always list "Bachelors Degree Study." Because, you know what? Life happens.
