Degree has yet to pay off

Hello everyone, I wanted to share real quick about my struggle of gaining a position in my career field. I have three degrees with the highest being a Master's in Human Resources, I do have some experience but not 5 years which is usually the requirement for the position I want. Getting my degrees may have wasted time, money and resources, although I am employed and the company is decent, I am still not where I should be. I have had many interviews since 2014 (Grad School completion in 2014) and I have been told that "I interview very well, my background and experience are impressive but at this time we moved on to other candidates." I fear that I am going to be looked at as being too old and all the competition is the much younger candidates. I feel so stuck! Any advice for women over 40 looking to get into their career?

So listen i know i may be pretty young giving anyone advice but what i would say is trust and believe in God .For one you basically mentioned that you want something better for yourself and how will you ever get to that point in life if no one feels like you are a great fit.I am at the point of my life where i have put tons of applications in online and no one has seemed to call me or anything but just because they don't call doesn't mean i won't get the job it just means i have to have patience and i can not get things when i want because if you look at it waiting for someone to call you is God's sign because he doesn't come when you want him to but he is right on time. What i am saying to you is you will get that job

I forgot to mention one more thing. Become a member of SHRM. Once you become a member they have chapter meetings you can attend in your state. Also look up this group called www.whineanddine.org. They are an HR group that meet on a monthly basis. You will be able to meet other HR professionals and network. You may also be able to find a mentor.

What kind of job were you thinking about. Yes I have done all the things u mentioned and more Office Manager. Lite bookkeeping. I'm listening but I don't think I'm what you're looking for.

Hey Kelise Leftwich , first off you should be proud of your accomplishments. Second you mentioned you have minimal experience. In this case, you need to start small on the entry level. I agree with @helenb, definition offer to volunteer, this will allow you to meet new people in your field and make connections. And you'll find doors will eventually open and you'll know when to seize the opportunity to pursue it. Eventually with experience under your belt, you'll be where you want to be but that can take 5-10 years, especially in a management role. Hang in there and good luck!
