Laboratory Assistant Phlebotomist at Mercy Regional Medical Center

I cannot find a job.

I am not hearing from employers. I have been racking my brain to figure out what the issue is. I've rewrote my resume and still nothing. I have 26 years in my field. I recently had someone review my resume online. I guess its not very good. I keep hearing about software that HR departments are using. It has always been easy for me to find a job. I believe I need to rewrite again. My question is should I try out resume writers that charge?
Is this software for real? How does it work? I am actually a Phlebotomist, blood drawer. I'm not sure specifically what is considered key words. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Darlene, hang in there!! You are not the only one paddling that canoe. A rewrite may be in order. I have had mine reviewed and it needs some updating. I have over a dozen applications/resumes out at this time that are over a week old. When I attempt to contact HR with status I either get no reply from them or there has been no hiring date established. After calling and emailing one company HR department they finally emailed me saying the had chosen a different candidate; 45 days after I applied!!! I know it's frustrating but keep at it and something will turn up!!!!

Hi Darlene, Great question about key words. I'd suggest you check out job descriptions for Phlebotomists. For example, I ran a quick search and came up with the following: http://bit.ly/2lbIjND It looks like the key words they're looking for are: laboratory procedures, collection, specimens, CPL compliance, HIPPA, etc. There are several bullets in the description that emphasize proper labeling, correctly identifying patients and customer confidentiality. I'd recommend reviewing your resume with these things in mind. It's also ok to find a couple of job descriptions and use the language to guide how you're describing your experience - just make sure you have examples to support what you put on your resume.

Good luck! Marijoy
