How do tips work at Dunkin

How do they work? I started last month at a location in MA (just moved to MA) and my manager says I have to type into the computer how much I made in tips when clocking out. Is this legal? I thought tips were an added bonus on top of getting paid an hourly wage. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you.

Tips are taxable income and must be recorded and reported

Yes if your server to restaurant making less than $3 an hour you have to claim your tips as part of your income that's your taxes just like the guy making $18 an hour

I would ask your manager why you have to type in your tips.As for being legal I can't tell you, but I would think YOUR TIPS ARE YOURS. I never worked that type of job so I can't tell you how it works, But I do know that most waitstaff servers work hard and do a good job

Each store is different. We always took the tips and split them up between everyone

It may depend on your employer the IRS requires that 9 to 13 percent be taxed on your base salary to cover tips that's Las Vegas alot of people don't care about base only tips if your in a small town etc IRS probably doesn't care simply ask your boss if he or she isn't reporting that to the IRS he has no legal right and should be indicated on your checks certaintlly on your w2

In some places, food service can legally pay below minimum wage on the assumption that you'll get enough to make up for it in tips. If you can prove that the tips don't add up to that much, they must increase your salary. It will depend on the local laws.

Does he take a piece of the action? You are sepossed to pay taxes on tips even though no one does so maybe it’s the taxes? If they were cool, they would turn the other way while you picked up your tips. Not minding their own business would be enough for me to look elsewhere. But that’s just me. I don’t know your environment.
