No money at all.

I've been unemployed for almost 10 months, not collecting unemployment, tried filing for disability and nothing has worked for me. I'm 58 years old. Why don't employers want to hire older individuals who have the experience for jobs?

I've heard that it also has to do with insurance and liability. Younger people require less healthcare insurance (usually due to less health concerns, and not having families yet), so less money for the company to shell out. Also, they can usually get away with paying a younger person less money, since they generally have less experience. I'm 44, laid off after working with a company for 15 years, and I think I'm at the beginning of that older employee category that so many companies tend to shy away from. :(

Welcome to my world. 58 and have 25 plus years in the accounting field and since Jan can't find work. Have applied to 140 jobs and nothing. Ones who I have interviewed with have either never gotten back or got rejection email. As for online work I have not found anything credible.

At a job I had in the printing industry they would hire young adults due to the fast pace and quick learning attributes. The stories I've heard is that usually old people tend to habits. I am 32 and seen somewhat is true. But not every person is like that

I turned 60 this year, lost my job last Oct. '19, got slammed by the CV-19 Virus in March '19, and had to sell our house in CA during the middle of the outbreak. I managed to sell it at a $30K loss, and my realtor got the most out of the equity. We moved out-of-state, but got a raw deal on a house in Eastern Idaho. I managed to get UI setup before the big wave hit in May of this year, but I've nearly run out of that as well. I've thought about changing careers, but at my age what do change to? I've been a Mechanical Design Engineer for over 30 years now. Anyone have any ideas?
