I also applied to a local store and the assistant manager told me that the hiring decisions are made by the District Manager who's not always available at the store. The best way to get hired is to go back and ask for the person responsible for hiring at that store and when would be a good time to go back if he/she is not there. Give it a shot and don't worry about negative feedback for checking in on your application. The employees at these stores are welcoming , friendly, and will help you get the info.
