I Seriously Messed Up Today!
So today I was in an interview and it was going GREAT! I mean, me and the hiring manager were talking about all sorts of things. We actually started talking about one of my hobbies, video games. She seemed super interested in learning about it and I was happy to oblige because I love sharing more about my hobbies.
So we start to wrap up because she has a meeting coming up, but as we’re walking back to the elevator she shoots me one last question, “So, do you have any other hobbies?” For some reason I was absolutely blindsided by her question. I tried to think but I couldn’t. My mind was completely blank, so I just replied “No?” in the stupidest voice possible. Her face fell. Then the elevator dinged and I quickly said goodbye and got in.
I’m not kidding, THE MOMENT the elevator doors slid closed about five different hobbies I enjoy that have nothing to do with gaming came flooding into my head. I felt so stupid. I felt like going back in there and screaming “I LIKE OTHER THINGS TOO! I AM A COMPLEX PERSON WITH VARIED INTERESTS!!” But I didn’t feel like getting escorted out by security today so I just silently cursed myself as I walked out of the building (probably for the last time.)
So, moral of the story is I’m always going to come prepared with a few hobbies on deck to throw out there if the question comes around again. Ugh, I can’t believe today.

Don't get discurraged.. Look if the hiring manager looks at only that one thing when the entire interview went so well to me, it says alot about the person she is. Interviews are a scary process as it is if she was any kind of a true open minded person she to will realize that u are good fit for thr job and over look the nervousnees that u may have had thru the interview process.

I believe you got the job. She probably threw that question in real quick, keep you on your toes. That happened to me about a job and I thought I didn't get the job, but in turn I did. Claim it, its yours

The Military will hire you for your gaming skills

Hi Mark, everyone has messed up at these interviews. No one is perfect. I swear interviews are created to make nervous wrecks out of people. Unless you are the coolest person, everyone has flubs. I had an interview some years ago with a boutique medical office in Chicago. The interviewer flew in from the company headquarters in Seattle. I was just getting over the flu and wasn't feeling all that great yet. I wore slacks and a very nice sweater instead of a suit jacket. The interviewer saw me and I could tell I blew the interview. Every time I think of this interview I get mad at myself. But, we must move on. Just because of my appearance she was disinterested. She lost a great, reliable worker (25 years of experience) just because of what I wore. Too bad for me and for her.

Prepared yourself for the next interview forget about the past but take a lesson from them and keep trying to get a dream job.

Mark-
Don't beat yourself up here. I don't think this sounds so terrible and if you did well otherwise, she will probably reach out to you. Best of luck!
