Behind the scenes age Descrimination
I am 56 turning 57 in April, I lost my Job in July 2017 and have run out of unemployment benefits. I have sent out hundreds of on line applications and resume's to no avail so far. I am beginning to believe there is a hidden age discrimination going on that is impossible to prove. So what are men like us to do?? I started my own web based store, however, have run out of capitol to get it completely off the ground and am running out of options. I know in my gut it is because of my age, yet I bring a ton of real world work experience to the table along with multi-awards, yet nothing. An interview here, a phone call there, but no offers, just "Dear John" emails of rejection " Whereas your resume is very impressive, we have received numerous applications from very strong candidates and we've decided to go with someone else. Best of luck" WTF???

Hi Mark what does your store sell? 57 is NOT old. You can get hired. Are you following up with any of those online applications? Find them on LinkedIn and connect. Try emailing your resume to every hiring manager that you can and then follow up. Make it more personal. Don't give in! When one door won't open go knock on 50 others. Also does your resume use keyword search? Your resume could be being weeded out from the pile and never viewed if it doesn't have what it needs. Hello Mark, Hope you are well. Sorry to hear that things are not going so well. UnfortunatUnfortunately there is age discrimination for anyone 40 and above, it's very difficult to prove, but not impossible, if you feel you been discriminated against reach out to your local department of labor. Regarding your resume and cover letter, you might need to revisit it and make sure that it is selling your skills and abilities, not your age. Wishing you the very best.
