Dispatcher at Taylor Farms

Any dispatch position requires computer skills , for example you need to know how to type I noticed some couldn’t type fast enough and they had a hard time it’s a fast paste environment that requires a lot of multitasking ,verbal skills are highly needed to communicate efficiently as well .

Well it depends on what kind of dispatching. I worked for an oilfield service company and I had to have computer skills, Excel and Word at the very least, be able to speak on the phone while taking messages and multi-tasking. Writing up Hazmat and MSDS sheets, have the ability to relay accurate directions at 110% accuracy, speak to internal and external customers, have working knowledge of the equipment that you are sending out and receiving as well as knowledge of the employees who will be driving and or coming onto the yard. Having knowledge of all of the products that the company deals with is essential. You have to have a general knowledge of the company itself and specific knowledge of any vehicles or personnel that you are dispatching and have the ability to prioritize, lots of different tasks time managed appropriately. Have multi-knowledge of DOT and employee rules, etc. if you dispatch for any company, it’s the heart of the company and the communication center. Know everything you can about the company or entity you’re working for or trying to get a job with.

It depends on what kind of dispatching you want to do. Most locations train or do sit ins to show you what they expect.

Every Dispatch Centers have their own requirements, so you may want to check with any that you are interested in. There are ones that will hire with no experience or training, opting to send you to their selected programs. It is a very interesting, stressful, rewarding, at times boring jobs. Good luck if you decide to pursue this line of work.

To become qualified for a Dispatcher job, consider taking a training course in emergency communications, call center operations, or public safety. Many community colleges and vocational schools offer programs that can help you gain the necessary skills. Jobcase, along with other job search providers like Indeed and Glassdoor, also list Dispatcher positions and training opportunities.
