The Lion Tamer

The problem I keep running into is being over qualified. On several occasions I have been told by potential employers that employees that are over qualified leave at the first hint of a better or higher paying job. This usually puts me into diplomatic mode and I immediately start damage control. I respond with letting them know that a good fit is more important to me than salary as well as being challenged. I also reinforce that the short commute is a huge perk.

I have been over qualified for certain jobs as well. The jobs that I am over qualified for are usually low paying jobs, such as; restaurants, telemarketing, cashier positions and a few others are good examples. Those forms of jobs definitely do not pay enough anyway.

Don't let them fool you I have been told the same thing numerous times throughout the year And what it turns out to be is that you are more qualified than the person interviewing you for the job and they feel threatened that if you get hired you will take their job

I have experienced the same problem. A staffing agency recruiter told me that I should. "Down size" my resume so that I won't come across as being so qualified!

I feel your pain. One thing that may help is just showing the past 10-15 years of your experience unless all is at your current job.

This is really happening have not had steady work since 4 months ago for the same reason I am over qualified and companies pay less calls, interviews without results I've had, I can't believe it, but we go forward. Good luck to all!

I do fully agree with you. The Recruiters are hesitant to take interviews where the candidate has more expertise. Arunabha Biswas Email: arunabha Biswas@yahoo.com (presently in India).

Hey lady I know what you mean sometimes people are afraid of us because they think that we might take their job when all we want is a chance to work

Sometimes I feel like wearing a sandwich sign that says: I'm wonderful just ask my customers! All joking aside..... the job search is proving to be very frustrating at this point. I'm 47 and I haven"t been without a job since I was 14.

Sounds like you are handling that situation nicely. Honestly, there's not much more you can do from there. A good fit should definitely be important to all of us!
