Is my daughter being taken advantage of?
My 18 year old high school senior was just hired at the local Macy's store as a seasonal employee (her 1st job). She is a part-time employee in the fragrance department and was offered $8.50 per hour. Her manager told her that when she rings up a purchase, she is to find the closest associate and have him/her enter their employee code (not her own) to complete the transaction. I understand she is not being paid commission but how is her manager/store manager going to determine how she is doing in sales if she is not getting any kind of credit for her transactions? Does anyone know how this works or is this just a special thing for small town Macy's stores and low-level supervisors that take advantage of the younger employees who would not know any better?

I don't think its right.. Only because she is a employee just like the rest.. It does matter it she only been there a short time.. Her commission she for her.. She shouldn't have to go though another person that been there longer.. It shouldn't matter..

How about you let her grow up and handle this on her own so she can become strong will and figure things out how the world works. Parents need to step back just a bit sometimes and stop relying on parents to fight whatever for them

That doesn't seem right. Call Macy corporate and inquire.

Tell her to find another job. This sounds shady. I mean you grown and you know this sounds shady. Don't let nobody take advantage of your child.

Something is definitely fishy here.

Its absolutely wrong. If that's the case, dont give her numbers for the register. Then, she's working hard, but the fulltime assos. are getting the benefits. Macy's has been around too long for this to be a problem. I would definitely go to corporate and not the store manager because he already knows what's going on. I hope she will find something else and YOU both have good holidays

Sounds like they are taking advantage of her

yes she is being shafted contact the hr department above the store level. the reason is simple if the sale is being given to another employee there getting credit for a sale they didn't do .I am experience retail manager and if she isn't getting credit for sales then walk away .that is total crap .I have never in my 30 plus years know of instance when its ok to ring a sale under another salesperson that didn't help or sell a item .In commission world most stores every one gets there sale and commission no matter how short of time there .I know I have had seasonal people and they get there commissions .You need to look in to this further. this sounds like a loss prevention issue

When you working the register your name will be on the receipt but the person who is on the sales floor helping a person out number should be on the item if not the sale go to no one at all but your daughter and she put in her code that is what we did when I worked in retail
Yes your daughter is not getting the credit she deserves I would look in to it if I were you that is just not fair but do it the smart way call another Macy's and askj question on how if works with new employees and then you'll know
