Question

How do you overcome bad credit. I have been turned down just for not meeting credit standards. It is getting very frustrating. I lost my job. Credit goes bad because of having no income. Have a low paying job that only helps to keep the family going. Not much left to pay old debt. But can't get the better job with better income so I can start repaying old debt

Ok. Let me chime in here...I'm curious to know what do you think are the benefits of credit counseling Byron? I believe the reality is for most people (me included) is that, short of the Credit Counselor cutting a check to pay down credit bills or doing something unethical, credit counseling has little or no value. One must find the resources to get those CC and other bills paid. All else are castles built in the air! (As Tina Turner would say!)

Make arrangements with your credit to pay the bare minimum. If you can't do that, file a CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY. It will wipe out your debt and give you a fresh start...but don't get a lot of credit afterward. Simply get one or two cards with low limits and pay in time.

Whatever you do, avoid going into consumer credit counseling, nor should you file a CHAPTER 13 BK. Both make you pay monthly payments, settling with your creditors for pennies on the dollar, and someone is babysitting your finances. Very little room to pay for little luxuries and you are paying the trustee a shitload of money over. Say, five years.

can you refuse to have this done? Let the credit reporters know that a company cannot have my credit report?

This happens all too often today. Business people today are taught by college professors with little practical experience in business, let alone life. Now the morons are requiring a college degree to be in the military. What buffoons! Why do you need a college degree to fight in a war? The enemy doesn't have one! My son went to a bank to get a bank account. They actually interviewed him, and one of the questions they asked him was whether or not he smoked. These people need put in line. They are severely maladjusted. Same thing with this. Why do companies need to know everything about you? The one concern a company should have is "Can and will you do the job we need done?". The rest of it is NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS. Sure they can run a background check to make sure you are not Charles Manson, but short of that they have no right prodding into your personal affairs. We all make mistakes in life, and we all need new chances. If a company isn't willing to give new chances, then IT should not be given any new chances either. Working with a credit counselor is a good idea to satisfy these idiots, and it could do you some good too.

You can always file a chapter 7 that will wipe it clean...but you will need money to pay the lawyer...Am in the same boat but I’ve decided against bankruptcy for now...but I have a job just not enough money to pay off all these creditors...Try starting a business now would be the best time as you continue to look for work...

Hi Sandra, my opinion is that, "no-one" should be turned down for a job because of bad credit. The potential employer should look at experience and worth. But always remember, what God has for you it is for you and nothing can take that away.

Sorry for the late response but try looking into a credit union & what ever small debt you have & can pay off start with that by seeing you're paying it off that helps build credit.

The main thing is to keep going forward, it may seem difficult now but pay what you can down. There are many opportunities where bad credit is not as much of an issue with employers, so keep on looking for opportunities. Praying to the Lord Jesus Christ for guidance is always a good first step. Best wishes.

What you need to do is get started with a credit counselor. This way when asked about your credit you can say that I am working with (So & So) company to eliminate my bad debt. In most cases companies take that into consideration
