So fustrating
I have been working on a career change for almost 2 years now. I have my BS in molecular microbiology and can't get hired anywhere. I have over 10 years of experience as a project manager that almost got me divorced. I apply to at least 5 different positions every morning and never hear anything back. I've only been on one interview that I felt went really well I sent a thank you letter and never heard back. The crazy part is is I did what everyone told me to do by getting another degree and all it left me is underemployed working part time tutoring kids of the very wealthy. I am at the point of giving up throwing in the towel and going back to a job that gave me high stress, low pay and endless weekends working instead of spending time with my family.

Try an internship. Part of the problem is that most people think they can just go to school and that is the magic that will get them to where they want to go. Not so my friend. While you were going to school you should have went the internship route. You may have to do that now OR take a temp job to break into the field. You have to make sacrifices to get what you really want. Like the others said don't give up. Just be smarter about your approach. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

hang in there

It is endless sometimes in the effort for many when they are trying to find a new job or the one we all dream of. Maybe it is time to get something new. Like, for example, a nonprofit organization. Where our experience and talent will be more appreciated. Also will may impact much more in the needs of today's' society.

I think you should not give up at all continue on your job hunt it might take awhile, No matter what you did not get this degree to give up on you. Keep pluging away at the job search and try different cities and I know for sure Minnesota has lots job opening in that field.I wish you well!!

Gabriela, check out Dr. Terry Wahls she is doing research on molecular microbiology. She might be hiring.

Hi Gabriel, I am sorry for what you are going through. Please don't give up.You will find the right job eventually. Try new search engines. My advice to you is to apply to 20-30 jobs a day. I apply about 50 and get maybe one response. My best to you and your family. Looking for a job, in any capacity IS a full time job. GOOD LUCK to you my friend and hang in there.

Gabriel, Go visit the VA hospital near you while there ask for #1 Volunteer services #2 The Chief Research department... By Signing up with the Volunteers that will give you insider access to the Department (Research Lab) you may wan to go in. Will they have any openings that you can jump on right away? Maybe, maybe not but that Chief will have contacts in just about every VA Hospital in the region or other research labs (Private Sector) that could get you hired. There is no magic bullet to get hired, only been at the right place at the right time. The more you try the better your chances.

Hey Gabriel, as our friend Eliran says, don't give up. You must believe what love must to do, because that is what you are!. Set your mind up, and visit in person those places that you know are in need of your BS molecular microbiology, if that is what you love most to do. As our friend Esther suggests use internet search engine for microbiology jobs in your area; phone the place, ask who is in charge, ask when that person is there, GO THERE IN PERSON, take a bus if possible, introduce yourself, give the person copy of your credentials. I guarantee you, you will have the interview and most like it the job. Never mind the pay, because that is what you love to do, the pay will increase as you perform the job you love. Cheers!!

Gabriel don't give up. You are doing the right thing, this is just a bump in the road.
