What does being overqualified mean?

A zillion times in filing an application, I get this remark. You are overqualified. What does it mean in being able to do a job that one has been doing for years? Its not the degree or the number of years of experience, it is the persons passion and interest and know how that makes him a better person at the job.

Hiring managers will typically say that for two reasons:

  1. They can't afford what they think you want to be paid
  2. You will get bored in the position and leave early on and they will have to start the process over again in finding someone else.

Overcome both of these in the interview. Even if they don't ask you directly about pay or boredom, let them know your thoughts on it. Show them that passion.

Being to overqualified usually means with the amount of experience you have they can not pay you enough.
