Commercial Truck Driver at J H Trucking

Depends on the company. Some companies have a trucking school they put you thru and give you a job at the end of it. You usually have to sign a contract to work for them fox X# years to pay for the school. They will deduct from your pay every week. If you quit, they will send you a bill for the full amount for training you. Usually they keep you out for extended periods of time, pay you for shit, do forced dispatch, etc etc. Talk to people who work for them and find out how they are treated before you select one. Some of them are: CR England, JB Hunt, Swift, Schneider, Werner, Roehl,. They don't really care about getting you home. As long as the truck is moving they make money. If you go home, the truck sits and does not produce income. You are paid by the mile, not moving = not getting paid. You are NOT compensated for time spent unloading, loading, fueling, waiting if the truck breaks down, time spent waiting for repairs, waiting to get to the docks, sitting in traffic, stopped for road closures, inclement weather, or anything else that does not include moving down the road. Some companies have started paying for you to unload or load the truck but it's usually not enough for the labor involved. You usually end up not being paid for all the work you have to do or the actual hours you put in until you have a few years experience. Then you can get on with the better companies who take care of their drivers. Good luck.

Depending on the job requirements, most employers have various needs met... i.e. insurance that says minimums of 6 months over the road or recent Truck Driving School.
The FMCSA (FED) has made it very demanding for new commercial drivers .
