Felony Convictions

A week ago, a jobcase poster indicated that he thought his felony conviction was probably the cause of him not getting selected for a particular position. At that time, I indicated that, at least in California and I suspected elsewhere, that a felony conviction could no longer be a automatic dismissal for consideration for a position. This is the "statement" that employers are now posting; "We will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring". I am not sure if this is true in other States, but it does bear looking into.

Being a TRUE felon what else can u guys expect? Some felons r like TRUE liabilities to an employer! However, God gives grace and mercy to ALL of US! So who can judge if they aren't God???!!! When god GRANTS that type of mercy DON'T take it for granted! We ALL make mistakes!

It's sad to say i live in Las Vegas and they are like this to a certain degree. They tell you your record is not a factor but once they see your background plus being from another state it's no - not hiring right now or your not qualified.. Yes these laws need to change because how is a person suppose to get their life back right if they're constantly being held back by blackball tactics and being to judgemental of one whom they dont know.

Hi Mattie, Yes, California is one of the states with in the Ban the Box Laws as of July 2017. It's important for applicants who feel limited to employment because of their backgrounds to understand these laws and what employers are allowed and not allowed to ask/investigate. See, https://americanchecked.com/new-california-ban-box-regulation-effective-july-2017/
