Would I be considered too old to hire at age 54?
I’ve feel that I’ve been overlooked at other jobs due to my age.

Unfortunately, I feel that age is a hinder to acquiring a new job. At 55 it's been very difficult and frustrating! Perhaps some employers feel that age is a factor... Of course, they will never reveal that...

Yes, it can definitely hurt you. I was fired at 45 because the young guy on the team did not find me cute and flirty enough. It made no difference that I had little kids and a mortgage. I ended up doing that gig crap where I was treated worse than dirt. I ended up getting back into a highly specialized credentialed field where age doesn’t matter. I still experience age discrimination because everybody loves the young, cute college graduates but not like I used to. I am able to promote and my company just paid $4800 for a certification I want to get. Never would have gotten that in my last sector. Now please note, I spend a fortune on Botox, hair dye, laser and so forth to look younger because I still have to put those kids through college. The mortgage is now paid off thank goodness!! Life can truly suck for older workers!

Your age should not hinder the job. What counts is, as long as you can do the job that's what really matters.

Yes this is helpful

Well I'm 57 and I'm still willing and able to work so that's why no one is calling me back. Well I'm not going to give up someone will hire me they don't make guys like us anymore. STAY TUNED.!!

Same with me. I'm 54 . I lost my job of about 24, 25 years because of my ADDRESS!! They then denied me my LONGEVITY check which would have been about $2000, and denied me UNEMPLOYMENT. I lost my mind! I wanted to commit suicide. I'm "Old School". If I'm not 15 minutes early for my schedule? I consider myself late. People DO NOT WANT A OLDER WOMAN!! IT'S HEARTBREAKING!!

Unfortunately there are several professional head hunters and others who hire that have articles and experiences with ageism and it is real. There are very few that don't experience it. It can happen as early as 45 depending on your work history and the market you are working in.

I have been a loan officer/underwriter in banking and finance in both the private sector and federal government for over 40 years! I recently applied for a loan processor's job that I could easily do in my sleep and was told I didn't qualify! Yes, they took on look and saw that I was 69 and never considered my many years of experience. VERY frustrating! And yes, they hired a 20 year old with NO experience!

Same here! I’m 54 with years of F&B experience and havn’t gotten a single response. Though everyone says there’s a dire need for Food Servers🤔
No I'm 50 I know how you feel
