Feeling Blue - I've never had such a hard time finding a job!

I was laid off 2 months ago today!!! I'm feeling so blue. Some days I'm fine and others I feel blue and so alone. I have a Masters degree... I have had so many phone and in person interviews.. I've made it to the 3rd interview with 2 great companies. I'm suppose to hear something by the end of the week from both places. Today I had a break down because I just don't know what to do with myself. I feel numb and just need a little hope and direction.

I also have an interview with a start up company next week. I'd love to take that job if I was offered but I'm also skeptical because I would be the 5th employee hired.

I am just not sure what I'm doing wrong to not make it to the final steps after the 3rd interview. I was asked by one company just last week if I was offered anything and they wanted to let me know I'm still an active candidate. What the heck does that mean? I thought for sure I had that job!!!

Anyway, I'm just trying to find ways to get thru each day until I'm offered something!

You need to file for exemption or as exempt and see if that works.

Hi Misty, Please know that it's not my intention to sound cliche but what you're experiencing is not unusual for someone trying to find employment after a layoff or sudden job loss. On a positive note, however, it sounds like you're applications and resume is getting noticed based on the amount of interview and call back activity you're receiving from employers.

Dont get depressed... All u can do is to keep trying? If your master's is in human services/ psychology, u can apply to delta t group ( not sure if they r located in your area) . also apply for social worker, apply to juvenile hall, juvenile shelters, juvenile placements. It seems that u might be willing to apply outside of your field : care.com to work with families, doordash. Com to deliver groceries if u have a car/ instacart the same, housekeeper. Com . careerbuilder and social services. Com r great sites. Glass door.com for office positions. Indeed.com and convergys.com to work from home

Misty, I'm sorry about your blue day... I totally get it. I have a bachelor's, but after 20 years in teaching, it was killing me!! I had to walk away. Thought I'd find a nice job, less stress, no problem...oh boy was I wrong. The whole applying for a job is so new, and the no responses... frustrating!! I started to wonder about potential employers wondering why I left a long career, willing to take a pay cut, but was never really given a chance to explain. I've been there! I just think for you, focus on the positive! You've gotten so much further than I, and a lot of posts I've been reading!! You will land that perfect job! That's what I keep telling myself!

Misty, I too have days which appear darker than they really are. But we both know that it is the WOW of visual stimulation that redirects consumers, and we can do it for ourselves too. Your children look enthusiastic, so have them take some selfies and print them out for you. Put them up throughout the house for your enjoyment. I read your bio...and you are more educated and skilled than most people of today. So bolster yourself with that every now and again. And I like to use a lot of yellows and oranges to chase away the blues.

Start-up companies do over-hire, so they can see where the production and ideas come from before making the final cuts. However, it is fantastic that the company has notified you, which you are still and active candidate for. Because during the last 9 months, two of them called me back for the positions. Remember that the books and projects are run on quarterly benchmarks, and October is right around the corner. Thousands of companies will be making their selections then. You are already ahead of all the people who never get to the third interview. I think Alanis Morissette sang it best...I just need some distraction.

There was a young girl here who posed the question 'which are talents and which are skills?' Certainly you have honed your skills through experience and your education, but now it's time to remember that the balance for harmony comes from doing those things we love. Where our talents lie. Motivation, Mobility, and Momentum are the three M's I live by. Any two of those, is an existence. But I want to be spectacular, thereby utilizing all three. I too have far too much idle time, so here's a thought. Investigate the competitors of the companies you've applied for. You will learn more about the industry and you just may find someplace else which could be more exciting. If you're still in Florida, move! A change of scenery is always good for the body and mind. Here in UT we have 300 companies all within 50 miles of each other, screaming for fresh talent and honed skills. And as always, love is the answer, and families are forever. Respectfully, Philip M Brockman
