2nd Interview Coming up - Help!
So I am switching career fields from finance to criminal justice as I have just finished my Bachelors in CJ. I applied to a million places and finally got an interview in my field of choice: probation. I nailed the first interview, the interviewer said I really did my homework and she loved me for the position amongst other great things. She had me fill out my info for the background check and provide her with references which I did. Then less than 24 hours later she called me for a second interview. She said 2 others would be interviewing as well. She gave a selection of 3 times (I stupidly chose the first time but didn’t have a choice because I had to go on my lunch break :(). Then she called 2 of the 4 references provided (not sure why not all?) They both called me afterwords saying they gave glowing reviews. The only concern she mentioned was the paycut I’d be taking and I believe I was able to ease her concern since she did offer me the second interview. I will be going up in front of the board and really want to stand out. Anyone have a crystal ball? Do you think these are good signs? Honestly she seemed to like me so much I was surprised I didn’t get the offer on the spot haha but I understand it’s a process and she doesn’t control it 100%.

Althea:
This post is more than a month old. My crystal ball says you landed the position. Now post and let me know. Proud that you were able to which careers. You are truly blessed! Much success in the future.

When I hired lab assistants, I spent about 50% of my time for about 3-4 weeks in the selection process, even when there were only about 5-6 applicants. Between writing the job post, answering phone calls, in-person interviews, calling references for the top 2 candidates, and writing a summary report for my boss and others with whom the applicant would be working. So yes, the person you spoke with will need feedback from others. Good Luck.

Going into a 2nd interview an d then a board to me just means you are in a taste test. The other 2 have the same equal platform. Why are you taking a cut in pay put you in that position. Have a cost effective answer.

Godisgoodallthetime ya all

Confidence is key. After my first interview was better than a complete success, i was called back for a 2nd interview. I was so excited i immediately told my grandma who beat me down with a sock half full of quarters because she said "the only reason to be called in for a 2nd interview is because you must've f**ked up the first one!".

Its possible from what my crystal ball shows! Lol! Just dont put your eggs in one basket! If the money isn't good after a year, apply for peace officer ( with a degree you go in with rank if you pass all three criterias!) After you pass the academy, you will make $3,077 per month! One more resource is social services. Com ( mainly for those with degrees) congrats on your achievement!

Althea your doing just fine from what I’ve read ..keep your positive attributes and move forward ....wishing you the best in your new career.

Reflect on the first interview. Remember their questions and the ones that you asked of them. This is your second opportunity to ensure that they understand that you are the one for the position. Best of luck.

Hi Althea, sounds like you’re doing great so far. For the second interview I would recommend coming up with some really good questions for them, which indicate that you’ve done your homework and want deeper insight into the job. For example, ask whether there’s a particular area where some extra effort would really help them reach their goals. The Ladders and some other job sites have a lot of good recommendations. Best wishes for your success!
Sounds good. I'm in the same position... waiting to hear back after a second interview. Completely different job but similar to what I've done for fifteen years.
The pay cut is difficult. I think if you explain things like "in preparing for this I knew the pay would be less so I made an effort to pay off my credit card" or state that you've "been paying more each month for my car payment in hopes to pay off the five year loan in a three years". Statements like these show you're a disciplined person, that you make goals and stick with them, and really understand the field and the pay. Another important thing is if they pay insurance that's a big deal. The cost out of pocket would be like a car payment. The job that pays more but doesn't include insurance becomes less desirable when compared to a lower paying job with benefits paid.
Good luck. I hope you get the job.
