Mocked
So I went into an interview at a local Starbucks, here in southern California. Just so everyone knows this is my first face to face interview in 6 years as I was laid off recently and couldn't find another desk job. I felt ready, prepared, even excited. Me leaving was quickly stopped by being blocked in my parking spot. Once resolved I rushed over to my interview. The woman interviewing me shook my hand and told me "you're late". I did not make any excuses and owned up to my 4 minutes behind. "There will be no interview today", said with a sly joking tone. She turned around laughing and walked away.
I stood there stunned. Unsure if she was joking as I could still hear her laughing around the corner. I could hear her laughing for a good 6-8 seconds with another co worker jumping in. After 15 seconds standing there, I realized I was the joke. I have never felt so demeaned, disappointed, defeated and humiliated. I calmly buy a coffee and give all of my references and resume to one of the workers who promises to give it to her boss, just in case. She saw it and said "oh, you actually want to buy something." I realized everyone in the store was watching, even patrons behind me.
Is this a proper response by any management? I have disabilities but none in particular mentioned on the application. I could have been bipolar or clinically depressed and that sent me over the edge. I don't feel this was in any way right. Granted I was behind. Has anyone in southern California ever had a similar situation? Anything I can do so that manager will never treat anyone like that again?
Thank you for any feed back.

I won't repeat what has already been said but I want to commend you on your professionalism in handling the situation. Though this is in no way your fault and in hindsight it may have been a blessing since I agree you dodged a bullet but I always do a driveby ahead of time if possible (when going to an unfamiliar place) and the day of the interview I plan to be 30 minutes early and sit in the car if needed until 10 prior to appointment time. This way if anything unexpected happens I'm always in the place 5 minutes prior to my appointment. Murphy's Law avoided. I agree with everyone else you should report them. discrimination of any kind is deplorable and unacceptable anywhere.

This is an assumption as you didn't make comment of her apparent age. Nor would you because it's not really part of the story, or is it? If she was a millennium baby it is par for the course. I have found them both elitist and extremely "entitled". I am sorry you were treated so poorly. I wish you all the best. On a positive note you might have dodged a bullet. Could you imagine actually working under her? That was a little taste you got to how she treats people. Be thankful. I know I would. Oh! I would also share your experience with corporate.

WOW, thats so very unprofessional , sloppy and just gut wrenching to here if i were you i would call corp on her because im sure they dont want their hiring managers acting like jackasses and whether you displayed your disability or not or the fact that you we running 4 mins behind gives her no right to treat people so awful.

That may have been a good sign. If you had been hired there this would probably be how you were treated each day. Do not hesitate to ask for the manager's name. Better yet, report this to a TV news program. On a slow day news stories are needed. The public, including regular customers may choose not to spend their hard earned money there. Paying customers and hard working employees are a reason a business is open. That kind of "advertising" might change how their business is run.

Every dog has their day!!! Things happen for a reason!! :)- Think about this....you would be working with that person/people!!!

First i like to say that you handled yourself very well. As for the women who was going to interview you, she was the perfect example in showing you exactly what you don't want to be..Lesson learned!
Something greater is coming your way! :)

I have heard similar stories of other Starbucks locations, terrible :(

don't let it bother you !!!! some people are just not nice. Go get a different job. HINT : It's probably a GOOD thing that you didn't get the job; I wouldn't want to work for that lady! LOL !

True you was late but that was unprofessional. I would call the corporate office and let them know how you was treated. That's what's wrong with the world today people quit caring about one another
I'm getting tired of the audacity of people too. If I was in my right mind and this happened to me, it's time to shake people up like they shake us up. Fuq it, you weren't getting the job anyway. She got personal with you first and tried to have a co worker bury you. Fuq that: B$#!* it's me and you when you get off work #Now work on that..
