Interview advice if you’ve never had a job

Have you been asked, “Have you ever had a difficult customer? How did you solve the situation?”. Yet you’ve never had a job before? Instead of saying “No” but this is what I would do, give an example of a bad experience you had AS the customer and what did you learn from that employee? Maybe they didn’t even listen to you or make eye contact, did they blow you off? These are things that you learned how NOT to be. Give yourself more credit, you may not have a job but you know what customer service should look like.

Customers don't like NO! it kills options, you always should give them the benefit of the dought. Change your answer in the way that pleases the customer.

Love this. This is an amazing way to look at many parts of the employment process. Knowing what you don't like is very important to finding and demonstrating what you do like. Thanks for sharing Danelle.

Great tip Danelle. Everyone old enough to get hired has a customer service experience (negative or positive) they can use to tell a convincing story when asked this very common interview question. Learning how to respond to behavioral questions is a key interview success component. Thanks for sharing.

Super advice, Danelle! It's important to think about the question from a different perspective because it demonstrates that you, as a candidate, can think "big picture," which is something employers often look for. Thank you so much for posting this!
