I received a Applied Associate Degree in 2011, for Software Development. I got away from it because of the economy ( Hair Stylist ) but I now am pushing forward with a tutor and relearning Java. I want to make sure that I'm Proficient enough so that I'm will be ready as much as possible . but I want to know, Should I inquire about Job shadowing or just submit a Resume' for and Entry level position.

I agree with Keith about applying for entry level positions and having a portfolio. Also, many software engineering job interviews are going to ask you to write example code on a white board during the interview to solve a problem. That's a useful skill you can practice.

Hi Sabrina,

Definitely look at entry level jobs, but I would also look into some "bootcamp" style classes. There's programs that offer 4-12 week trainings on specific technologies, that way you can get back up to speed. It would help you brush up on your Java and also learn some new languages that may be a better fit for you. Good luck! -Mark

I agree with Mariah, regarding applying to entry-level positions. You may want to create some personal apps to show perspective employers that you are motivated and can apply the skills you've learned. You can highlight these side-projects on your resume and Jobcase profile.

Best of luck Sabrina. Let us know how things go with your search!

Hi Sabrina: That's a great question! I think you should definitely go for an entry-level position - you have in-demand skills, plus I'm sure you'll learn a ton of awesome stuff on the job. Let us know if you end up getting an interview - the community is here to help!
