Went to college. Graduated top of class for undergrad, and for MBA. Still having hard time making over $21hr. Feels like a waste

Has anyone ever felt like they wasted time and should of went to college for something else? Well, I do. I have a MBA and my undergrad was in Business too. I graduated both programs with over 3.67, but of course nobody cares when you become an adult. Plus, trying to move to other roles, like human resources when you've been in finance or account management seems to be impossible. SMDH. If I knew what I know now, I'd went to school for something in medical field like communcation disorders, nursing ,or occupation therapy. That way, I can help people, make great money, and have job stability. Its so frustrating when you're educated, great work ethnic and still have a hard time find a good paying job. Like really, why would you call someone with a MBA and try to offer them a job paying $12-$16hr? That is a slap in the face. When you have a family, car, childcare, rent and other obligations at minimum $24 hr should be offered. If I wouldnt want to live off of $12-$16 hr, why would I ask you too? Especially if the job requires a Bachelors, MBA, or certain amount of experience.

Does anyone else feel same way I feel?

WOW Nicole..... I have a Medical Assisting certificate that took me 9 months to earn. I earn $20 an hr. now as a MA. Even my paramedic associate paid me $16 hr. (2009-2011) This is so sad. I'm not so sure now that I mad a bad choice not to try the MBA or MPA track. This is very frustrating for you I know.

Absolutely! I grew up in a rural county in NC, Columbus co., and went to UNC Chapel Hill following high school and after two years transferred to UNC Wilmington, where I graduated with a BS degree in Business Management. My gpa was not that of my younger brothers, 4.0, and number one in the graduating class but still respectible at 3.5. At that time Cameron Business School was ranked 2nd in the state behind Chapel Hill and I think in the top ten nationally! That was in 2000 and I was in love with a home town girl and the area in which I grew up! So I moved back to the area and took a job in sales. Since then I've had to do many different jobs to try and survive, forget prosper, for my family of four. I have wondered if a masters degree would make any difference and lately wished I'd never moved back here! I'm truly at a loss, I am tired of begging to work hard for someone else, along with being loyal and all one would expect to get from the best kinda employee!! I really feel your pain and confusion! I blame the generation/leaders before us for only caring about themselves and not a sustainable future! I truly wonder if an ethical, honorable, enlightened, compassionate, and responsible "good " living can be obtained!!!! I fell back on my ability to do physical/mental work and have progressed from residential general contractor to industrial electrical/instrumentation technician and once again find myself begging to try and be apart of something with security for myself and family! It is so disheartening and depressing but I hold on to faith! One thing that I do know is that if I'm ever in the position to make a difference for those in the future, I will act for the betterment and longevity of us all!!!! Not a few!

I am in the same boat, 43 years old, got my Masters degree in Healthcare Administration, and I have 20 plus years experience in healthcare and having trouble finding a job. It feels like I am slipping into depression with this being such a struggle.

It's a slap in the face to offer anyone at this day and age a job paying $12 an hour regardless of whether or not they were "good" and did everything the right way. But regardless it seems to be something a lot of people are going through. Seems like a random crap shoot regarding who gets hired and who doesn't. I sincerely wish you good luck!

I feel your pain. If I had to do ask this over again, or give my son/daughter advise if say get a different entry level job every year and a half, because when you try to change careers you'll find that degrees only count if you have experience to go with it. I've wanted to change career before but can't get into anything other than entry level, and even then they want experience. Good luck, I'm also looking for work. Love the current economy where a masters degree pays 40k. Wow.

Kind of funny how that goes good goddess of your credentials they still look at you an entry-level because you have to learn the way that they do things your papers mean a lot to you because of what you went through but it doesn't matter to them still consider your age still consider you experienced that'll bring it that'll bring you into the position even with a good work ethic but most of all they're going to consider you with the knowledge of their business you're just getting a part of it then that's the way they're going to look at it to succeed you probably have to show them more than just how capable you are you probably need to show them exactly what you've learned how you apply it to their needs then perhaps they'll look at you for more right now they're scuffling to take in the youngest with the least amount of knowledge because coming out of school they consider you bringing not to make you angry butt you have to realize but there are some standards that the older people understand that the younger ones don't they consider you are just having a piece of paper with a small amount of knowledge it's how you apply the knowledge that they look at
