Conflicted

I had a job interview back in early November for job (according to the description) that I like. During the interview process I asked all about the job and what day to day tasks were like. It seemed like the perfect company and fit for me. I ended up getting the job and started January 2 of this year.

As training went on, I came to the realization that the job is not like the description. (I was under the impression that I would be designing things and instead it more analytical and very repetitive work) I get my work done but I'm not happy with my decision in accepting this job. It's not in the field I want to be in nor am I doing things that I thought I would. I have spoken to my HR department and asked if there were any openings In the design department they said no. Ive talked to a few friends and family and all have suggested I stay with the job for at least a year. I don't want to quit due to just completing training and I'm just getting my health insurance and it's an income to pay the bills.

I haven't had many jobs in the past, but I have always found a way to make the best of were I was working. I can't seem to do that here. I'm really thinking about looking for another job but I think about how it won't look good on my resume to see a job for only a few months. I know in you career you aren't going to like every job. I'm just not sure what to do.

Sorry to hear this. Many companies advertise job positions in their company for that lucrative position to the public because they have too when they already had filled the position. Now you get the position where that person used to be. Be more informed of the next company you want to be hired with, their website, reviews, look them up in glass door even reviews on consumer report. I would suggest you follow family instructions and stick it out for a year. It’s good you inquire to HR. This shows a desire to move forward and grow with the company. Stay for a year. In the meantime keep searching on the side and do your best with this company so you get noticed for another position.

Hello, Katie, Since you have a job and it is paying the bills (right?), I would hold on to it, try to make the best of it, and in the meantime look for something more along your liking. However, let us keep in mind, too, that a good job is hard to find nowadays and is worth holding on to. After all, life does not guarantee we will like everything that befalls us. What is more important - enjoying a job or making sure your needs, bills, food, and living expenses are met? If you are a person of faith, perhaps you should pray to God and seek wisdom about job seeking. You could be there for a reason unbeknownst to you at this time that may pan out nicely later.

Complete the year.so you don't look like someone who just makes quick decisions without thinking. Plus this shows you really tried and gave yourself, the company and the job itself a chance.

My goodness...just sit tight there for a year. They have given you what others are trying to have and people wonder why its so difficult to land a job. Training takes time and you aren't being fair to them so stay for a year out of loyalty.

Find the right job now. For the resume, consider this time a search period.

Stick it out and find another job before you leave. It will look good on your resume experience-wise.

Same thing happened to me , for a graphic design position and it was totally not how the job was described...I went through training and all but I could make the Jon enjoyable I actually cried at one point. I'm not saying to do as I did I left the job and talked to them to put me down as a freelance temp... They agreed and now I'm looking for work but it won't impact my work history that bad.

Sadly thats most of us. Few of us good onions and mixed with a few pears are involved in a land full of apples. Not likely. Yes. We go to school for years and we take covertly crazy intern-ships while expanding our own knowledge in our tiny amount of free time; all while working a minimum wage job to support ourselves and family rite? Rite!! Rite!!! Then we submit our resume and apply for a decent position--All to be told that we need more experience and or, that we just don't fit their criteria. HUH? WHAT? WHY DID I DO ALL OF THIS THEN? YES. UNFORTUNATLEY ALL TOOO COMMON. MY DEAREST AND MOST RESPECTED PUBLIC.--ITS OK TO FORGIVE. HOWEVER THE WORLD IS NOW AND NEVER BEEN A PUBLIC DOMAIN FOR WHAT WE KNOW. SO REMAIN HUMBLE AND CONTINUE THE JOB SEARCH. LOTS OF US ARE MOVING JUST TO FIND WHAT WE NEED--AND OF COURSE THE BIGGEST KICKER-WORKING A job THAT IS WAY BENEATH OUR EDUCATION AND TRAINING. GOOD LUCK TO YOU
