Fed up with low paying wages
It is a truly disappointing job market. I've had lots of jobs since I was fired for one simple mispunch. I was making 25/hr with a career of 18 years in heavy equipment operations. Now I can only get 15/hr at best and they treat me like dog ****. I can't find a decent job. There are lots of straight labor jobs but I'm getting old and I'm a single parent of two children. I've had it with this 3 month long pursuit. Taking jobs left and right where I want to punch the big bad boss , as they want to be seen, Tyrants!! So I've decided to take it to college. It's sad that 18 years of knowledge means nothing to employers these days unless you have a degree. All these online places are praying on job seekers like wolves to rabbits. My email is filled with crap about non existent jobs 20 to 30 of them a day. They are attached to a private college and even blow my cell phone up with computer voice calls. All these online guys preying on poor uneducated people, saying they got rich overnight with this great system and for free but actually 300$ you could do the same. IIIIMMMM SOOOOOI FEDDDD UUUUPPP . So off to community college I go.
Your assessment is right on Allen. Too much experience is not often viewed as an benefit to those responsible for doing the hiring. Labor cost and outdated experience are commonly what raise the cause for concern. More schooling and training is an excellent idea. Try to focus on technical skills.
Actually, going off to college is a good choice when you run into a scarce job market. Also, I can relate to how difficult it is to job search with so many scammers infiltrating the internet. I miss the days when you could simply pick up a newspaper and search for a job. Now that I am retired and having found a few jobs to work at while a single parent, I can only say that it is important that you never give up. I learned when I worked in advertising that if you handed out 2,000 direct marketing fliers and got only 2 responses, that was a good result. When I was out of work for a year right after 9/11, I sent out 2,000 resumes and got 2 interviews. A good result. Yes, there were days when I cried because the interviewer didn't call me back and yes there were days when I too felt like I just couldn't go on. Then, I would take a rest for a day and go back to job searching. Necessity is the mother of invention. Eventually I found a job in one of the best companies to work for in the country. I had taken a stepping stone job before I found it, but it was well worth the 10 1/2 years of employment I gained working for an employer who valued their employees. Never give up faith.
