Assessment tests? Really? But I have 15 years experience.
Greetings....I've applied for many jobs within the last year after a lay off and I finally landed a great job. During the entire time I looked for work, I'd say at least 40% of those who contacted me about a job opportunity wanted me to take a personality test and an assessment test which consists of math, reading, problem solving, logic and reading comprehension. The assessment test consists of 50 questions of which you answer as quickly as possible within 12 minutes. The personality test is basically a psychological test to see if you're a low or high risk employee. I get that. What I don't get is why would hiring managers want to give me or anyone else an assessment test for a job position you've been in working for ten years and successful at it. Why do I need to take a dumb assessment tests to determine whether I can or cannot do a job?
I graduated from high school and I graduated from a University. In my line of work, I problem solve, use critical thinking, prepare and initiate scope of work, resources, budgets, plans, give presentations, implement reports, analyze reports, negotiate contracts, and import/export goods.
When I've taken these tests, I try to answer all 50 questions, however, I can only make it to question 30 and time is up! Later I find out I didn't pass the assessment test so I am immediately eliminated from moving to the next step in the process. After taking these assessment tests and finding out I didn't pass, it leaves me questioning myself. Do I need to take some classes? Do I really have what it takes? My self-esteem is hit hard after these assessment tests.
I received another email a few days ago bout a job opportunity and with that comes....an assessment test. I now refuse to take them. I don't plan to leave the job I have now. I'm just curious....can anyone here please tell me why companies have you take these assessment test for a job you've been doing for many years? I think these assessment tests are a waste of time and useless.
Anyone had the same experience?
Ten years ago I didn't have to take these dumb assessment tests.

I agree with you 100%. I've had the same problem.

They want to see if you can 'walk the walk'. Also they give you personality test to see how you would react in a hypothetical situation. The other test (math, reading comprehension tell them if you have a basic skill set that you would need on a daily basis
If you want a new position the first thing you need to do is stop whining. Focus on alerting the companies what you can bring to them. If they are asking for tests and other requests you don' t like then think how it will be like once you work for them. Maybe those companies are not the right one's for you.
