Your the driver. That makes YOU the BOSS!!!
If your dispatcher or boss tells you something you don’t like, JUST SAY NOOO!!! Don’t drive tired to make them happy. Don’t speed if you can’t make your delivery in time. Don’t accept anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. It’s your ticket, and they will not pay it. If you work for companies like that, than quit. Don’t say you need the money. That’s a bullshit answer. There are hundreds of other companies where you can make the money. 26 years I have been driving and I don’t take bull from no company. Neither should you!! Take care of you!!! Don’t let anyone or any company be the boss behind your wheel. Your a big boy/girl so make YOUR OWN DECISIONS. Be safe out there my fellow drivers and ALWAYS be safe

YOU SAID IT !!!!!!

I drove for over 35yrs and you're correct. You are the driver, the steward of you time and you'll do the best to make sure you're on time but there are things that will happen that will cause you to not be on time for a pick up or delivery. It's that if you are going to be delayed that you call the shipper or receiver directly to explain the situation then your dispatcher. Dispatchers get paid on commission and get a bonus when you're on time and that's is one of the reasons that they stress over appointment time and it's wrong to put pressure on a driver so they can make the more money. I know it's crazy but most trucking companies are like that. They care more about the money than the safety of the driver and those around him on the road. If at anytime that a dispatcher demands that of you best record it or have them send it in a text and save it so to have a record as proof and it may be the only way to get a job after they fired you for being insubordinate and believe me they will do anything and everything to benefit them in the end by black balling to lying, been there and done that. I've always said that if they could do the job better than I could then why aren't they the ones behind the wheel. All it takes is for someone to make a mistake that's not of your own to cause lives to be lost, equipment lost or repaired from an accident and like you said you own that ticket not the company. Their not going to bail you out of any situation that they convinced you to put put yourself in. They know its against the law so why do you want to break it to satisfy any of the nonsense. It's best to be late and alive, then late and dead

Love this Robert Attardo and you make some fantastic points!! NO one should dictate your safety and what you feel comfortable with! Trucking is a challenge and you're right that you should make your own choices.
if you feel that quitting is the best approach, then do it. I would just suggest finding another job before you quit this one.
