Ohhhhh, Cynthia Watkins, are you trying to make friends with me? Because you're on the right path. I'm not sure if we're parsing each others' words or looking to have a FINAL SHOWDOWN MOMENT with this thread. You can decide that. Until then, I would like to offer some amazing clarity to you on your latest post. You probably don't recognize this, but I do--wait for the end. You used the following words in your reply to me: "...people like yourselves." Now Cynthia, you can't leave these words just hanging in the ether. I'm sure you would've cocked an eyebrow had I said them. Please tell me (I'm rarely ever offended by anything) exactly what you meant by using those words. We haven't met to the best of my memory. I'm not posing any suggestions or accusations here; I'm simply curious so I can file "those words" coming from "Cynthia Watkins" in my cerebral bank. After I wrote my first book at the age of 7, yes 7, and I had to hand-write every damn copy of that stupid book (which I could only sell 3 out of 10), I became more...wait for it...RESOURCEFUL. I used the mimeograph (that's what we called the pre-evolution of Xerox machines) in the Journalism Dept. of my middle school to make my stupid copies. Then, I hired my best friend to sell them in my neighborhood. She was platinum blond, blue eyes, and long legs BEAUTIFUL. I got smart real quick. "What good is having knowledge if you are UNWILLING to share it?" I think this a call out to the world and not specific to just me on this thread. That's part of the gig when you're a writer. You fatten up with knowledge, insight, and experiences, go to the keyboard, regurgitate everything you've absorbed, add a dash of perspective, stir well, let it simmer, strain all the puzzle pieces you end up with and then make a great story out of it...for the purposes of sharing with others. You, Cynthia, need to WRITE. Your need screams at me from your post. Just visit your keyboard. (And let me know if you want to be friends!)

Vocational Counselor Ii

Mario,

You didn't respond but I asked if you live in Los Angeles because I am a Vocational Counselor. Most of our clients are on probation or parole. My office is in Lynwood.

The best thing to do Mario is hire an attorney and see if it's possible to get the conviction expunged. I don't know complete specifics with law but if your on probation or some other issue it may take some time before that is able to be removed. Consult with a criminal attorney and see your options

Have you tried getting some of the crimes EXPUNGED? I realize that will cost about $100 (maybe more) per crime but it may help you in the long run "cleaning up " the background. Unfortunately background checks are performed on any minimal paying jobs but you deserve a second chance. Maybe call the courts/ probation office and explain your situation and just maybe you'll find someone who cares enough to help you. Persons on probation have jobs why shouldn't you? The only jobs I know of that don't perform background checks are waiting table jobs. Another idea would be to enroll in a quick program like HVAC, Welding etc and they will quickly let you know what barriers are in front of you. Lanscaping, Laboring jobs, local employment agency? Good luck to you.
