Department Manager at Walmart

Looking for a job that I don't have to feel depressed, not appreciated.

I been working for Walmart for over 5 years. I have never liked what I do but they were willing to work with my business allowing me to DJ wedding receptions. But as of late they been less willing because my business has been taking off that I have worked a Saturday a month but I was willing to work Sunday. I need both jobs to pay bills but I feel dead inside with Walmart. Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

I have no idea that a job could make a person feel depressed...I thought that losing a loved one, bullying, abuse, trauma , and destitution were contributory factors for depression.

Shaun, I completely understand where you are coming from. I was terminated from my past job under false pretenses. I have always wanted to become a real estate agent. So, while applying for jobs I went ahead and took the real estate class and will be taking my state real estate exam on Monday. But, since real estate is commission only, I am trying to find a full time job and possibly do real estate part time to help get started in that industry. Unfortunately, I am having a awful time finding a full time job. I hope that you find a job where you can continue pursuing your passion. Good luck!

I left Walmart 7 plus years ago. I’ve never regretted it. You will be amazed at what your future holds. God bless you!

Currently unemployed - past title was Complaint Specialist with UCB, Inc.

Trust your gut and focus on the wedding business. You already said that it is beginning to take off and that is your passion. Put your energy there and the money will follow. Remember, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed...God will see you through!

Jobcaser (and Chief Financial Officer)

Shaun - good for you for having such a successful 5 years at Walmart and success in your weekend business as a DJ! Have you considered interviewing for jobs at other companies that have lawn & garden departments like Lowes, Home Depot, or even local home/garden stores, etc. and seeing if they have options that would give you more control over your weekend schedule? Or a grocery store given it looks like you were in a grocery department before your current role? It may be hard in retail, but could be worth exploring in case it works out, including the ability to use that to negotiate with Walmart - "I have a job offer from Home Depot that guarantees me Saturdays off as long as I work Sundays 2x month but I would really prefer to stay at Walmart." If that doesn't work, I agree with Lenin you might want to consider a non-retail field that has more flexibility. Lastly, re your resume: I would suggest adding you DJ business on your resume as well - it shows your additional work ethic & dedication. And if there is anything you did between the time you graduated from high school and your starting at Walmart, that could be good to add as well (even if it was more schooling, volunteering, etc.). Good luck and please keep this community posted!
