I was notified unofficially i was selected

I called human resources on Wednesday to check status on a position i interviewed for. I was then notified that i was selected but details couldn't be released because placement is still be decided on . Am i wrong for not contacting unemployment? I havent been officially offered the job or started working.

What's the difference between "I was then notified that i was selected" and " placement is still be decided on"?

you have to stay on top of things. call them once a day till they say yes you have the job or please stop calling us we went the other direction that position has already been filled but thank you for considering us good luck in your job search. I've done it they can tell you one of two things yes or no.

No, you contact unemployment when you have a start date. You don't want to contact them to early because you would still need to collect until you start. Also, you contact when you have a start date just in case something happens and you don't get the job.

Until you have an offer letter in hand, just do what you have been doing. Once you have the offer with a start date, notify EDD / state unemployment office.

Wait. until you are actually working. Then show our as income received and amount that week. You don't have to report till you work a week then file it as income received even though you haven't been paid yet

Pam .. unless you have qualified for unemployment benefits on a prior job, you will not be eligible to receive unemployment benefits. It is a requirement that you actually work for a certain period of time (depending on the state) before you can legitimately apply for unemployment benefits ...
