Need Advice

I have been working since I was 15, so for nearly 10 years. I have excellent customer service experience. Customers at multiple jobs have told me I hold myself as a manager and I should be promoted. One job promoted me to management, then demoted me 2 weeks later, because coworkers complained that I "let the power get to my head," when really they were upset that I took my job seriously and managed the store (ie assigning jobs to people that stand around on their phones, etc). I am a very friendly person, and I know how to sell myself for a job.

I'm burnt out on fast food and restaurant service in general, but I highly enjoy working in this industry, even though the pay is less than I need. I'm a single mom and I am currently saving money for a laptop so I can start going to college online for Business Administration (have already done everything except the financial aid process, so I'm sitting in limbo for college).

My problem is, I am 25, I need a set schedule, and I have no idea what my skills transfer to. Should I look for better employment elsewhere, or should I stick with fast food and next-to-nothing pay for the next 4-5 years while I'm working on my BA?

Stephanie sometimes we find ourselves his situations that we don't want to be in. Sometimes it's best to just stay in those situations until we get the things that we are waiting for. For instance College. You can use the computer at the library until you get a laptop. That way you could take online courses and your manager can I just show schedule so you can go to the library. I'm sure that if you tell your manager your goals and what you're trying to do as far as College they'll adjust your schedule. Sometimes the fast food industry and the restaurant industry is the open door to meeting people that can change your life. So I would say stick to it you never know what can happen.

I think management would be a good idea or on line jobs where you can stay home and make a lot of money and work when you want to

Stephanie, it sounds like you're a hard worker and it's absolutely terrible that you were demoted for managing efficiently! Goodness.

Given your customer service skills, I think you should look into possible front desk/reception jobs-- a lot of them are full time but there are plenty of part-time positions as well. You could even look into office manager-type roles. You might want to try contacting temp agencies near you to see if they help with part-time work.

I think there's no harm in looking for work elsewhere, and I think there are plenty of companies that would be happy to have your skills and your drive!
