Deli Clerk at Smiths Food And Drug Store

Kroger

I worked for Smith's Food and Drug, a Kroger company, in Az. for a year and a half, in the deil. I actually made good money and loved my job. Last June my father-in-law had a debilitating stroke and we were already taking care of his wife. Anyhow, I had to leave my job, under great circumstances, and probably the best references I've ever had, (I'm 53). Here is my problem, now that we are back home in Cali, I receive job notifications steadily from Kroger, have applied to many, which I am qualified for, but never here anything, I just don't get it.

Hi Heather, It could be that Ralph's managers are overwhelmed right now with applications after Kroger's big Hiring initiative announcement last month. Did you send in an optimized resume along with your application. Hiring managers will not see your resume if the Application Tracking System, ATS doesn't give your application a high enough rating. Mirroring key words found on the job description to your resume will elevate your rating and increase your chances to get noticed.

Networking is also important. Laura O works at the Ralph's in Oxnard, CA. Use the link above to send her a message and ask her what's the best way to get hired or who you can talk to about a job. Worst case senario - just walk into the store and ask to speak to the Personnel Manager. Now's the best time because the company is hiring.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law, Heather. I can only imagine what you are going through, but I just want you to know that I have immense respect for you for doing that!

From what you've said, you made some great connections at Kroger. I would reach out to them and ask if they could recommend you for any positions in California. Sometimes you may be overlooked for a job that you could easily get had the application came from an internal source!

Best of luck, and please keep the Jobcase community informed on how it turns out. We are here to support you!
