Administrative Professional / Clinical Trial Project Coordinator

Has anyone had to prepare a presentation when interviewing for an administrative type role?

I have a round of face-to-face interviews on December 4th for a Clinical Trial Associate position (basically, it's an administrative role for clinical trial/projects). The first segment is a presentation to a group of 8-10 people. I'm really nervous about this, as I have never had to do a presentation before. I have assisted managers+ prepare their presentations, but I have never had to give one myself.
I am feeling really anxious about this.

Is this a hypothetical situation you are doing the presentation for? Or is this company asking you to work to do this presentation? If this is a real presentation for real employees using the company's real info regarding the clinical trials, they want you to basically work for free. Not cool, and not something you want to agree to.

I don’t mean sarcastic but every time I go on an interview I do a presentation. I know it’s not the way you mean it but think about what I said. You always have to be your best and make a good impression. If they ask for a presentation they should give you details on what you’re presenting and again put your best forward. This is the time to shine in both presenting yourself and the presentation piece all in one. Good luck!

I did this presentation and round of interviews 3 weeks ago.
First of all, their equipment wasn't working, so I had to do the presentation off my printout (it was a good thing that I had brought about 10 handouts -- I was scheduled to present to 8 people).
Then, for the 5th time since the interviews were scheduled, the attendees had changed, without notice. Only 2 of the eight had LinkeIn profiles, so I had no idea who I was going to be speaking to.
During the presentation, it looked as though at least 1/2 attendees were too busy checking their cellphones to be paying any attention to what I was saying. During the interviews one lost interest after she asked if I had a degree and I told her that I didn't, but I did have several years experience in the field. Another asked an 'off-the-wall' question that didn't pertain to the position. During the interview with the HR person, I asked what the timeline would be for a decision, I was told that they had several other interviews scheduled, but the only day of the week that was manadated that everyone be in the office was Wednesdays, which left just 2 weeks before the holidays -- and they were closed from Christmas Eve until January 2nd. I'm not holding out much hope for this one, as they didn't appear very diversified - mostly younger Asian folks; I don't fit into either category. In addition, they seemed to be hung-up on the fact that I don't hold a degree.

I am not sure, Margaret. But I had to prepare for various teaching job interviews. I basically had to create a lesson plan and sample lesson activities for teaching math and technology. I decided to create a sample test, as well. I made various copies for the administrators.

Best of luck with your presentation today! I liked Marijoy's feedback, where she advised you to bring copies of your presentation to all of the interviewers. A dress rehearsal with friends was also great advice from David. Please do let us know how it went, and if you get the job!

Margaret: I have never applied for this type of position myself, however as a college adjunct professor, I have had to deliver a "demonstration lecture" to a group of people involved in the hiring process.

I'm sure you can do it; If you have never delivered this type of presentation, you might perform a dress rehearsal with some friends just to set your mind at ease.

One question I have that you might have and inquire about, is the nature of the subject matter. Did the company indicate the subject and duration of the presentation? It would help a lot if they can clarify this.

Good luck and I am sure you will do fine.

HI, Margaret Nebbia Congratulations on your interview!

Interview Questions for Clinical Associate you may be asked.

  • What makes your comforts about a Clinical Associate position?

  • What are your professional objectives for a Clinical Associate?

  • What pertinent Clinical Associate skills do you possess?

  • What steps do you follow to study a problem before making a decision?

  • What are you expecting from this firm in the future?

Since you have assisted managers + prepare their presentations, Just look at it as if you are assisting a manager. You have the training and knowledge. Again just think of it like that and don't underestimate yourself. YOU GOT THIS!
