NP-C
I am currently looking for NP positions in my area and have been for several months. I'm getting so discouraged. I am working RN contract positions to maintain employment and skills. But I am so ready to start my new career. I really want a position in women's health and surgical nursing as an NP, as this is my passion and 90% of my RN experience, but this is a rare opportunity to find. Should I take any position I can find for the experience until I am offered the "dream job"? I don't know what managers would think about having experience but possibly leaving after a year or less or more depending on when the opportunity presents. I was told by an HR rep that with the fiscal year starting over soon, new budgets and positions will be approved and hopefully improve my chances for either. So ready to be off the floor and ready to start my new career!

Hi . Go with your heart and passion. Think for yourself and stay positive....if you have got to this point in your decision making...listen to yourself. Good luck...stay in touch. Laura

Dear Shanna,
I would take what I can at this point so when you do apply for your "dream job" you can show that you have been working. It will also keep you from getting rusty as you pointed out. As far as finding your "dream job" I would look on the websites of hospitals that cater to your likings. I would also look on the job boards to see what is available.
Good Luck on the job search and I hope that you find something soon.

I agree with Jay Bradshaw, Get on with the hospital even if its a RN position. If u do good and build a respectable relationship with managers and coworkers it should be easier to obtain the position you want most. Just make sure you keep your eyes open for it to come along. II firmly believe God helps those who helps themselves and are willing to put in the work and above most, Have faith not only in him providing but in yourself. I have been laid off for over 5 months now and knocking on all doors I come across. I was discouraged and asked for help. Forgot that sometimes even though your working your butt off to get things done yourself , it doesn't hurt to ask. I have had several opportunities lately and have no doubt it was because I reestablished my faith in him and myself. Hoping to start a life changing career real soon. I have also found its much easier to get a job when you have one. Best of luck to you and everyone else, its definitely tough job hunting now-a-days.

you look like a wonderful N.P. I would go to you. I don't know if you are in my same area but check Acacia wellness center 217 W. Georgia Ave. suite 120 Nampa Id 83686 ph. 208 498 1760 Tessie Langford Roberts on Facebook.

The posssibilities, if you are gaining experience in the field that you are in then appreciate that as a stepping stone to the next level, on the other hand the positions that you could accept at this time may prove to be more than they appear to be. You might want to look at possible expansion of these companies it may put you in a better position than you have imagined, after all a wealth of experience is almost like owning a gold mine.

Shanna, I also live in Atlanta. Please try Northeast Georgia hospital. Life house facilities as well as Emory university student health, Georgia State student health or any of the many universities student health departments

Look into the DC and Maryland area. Many jobs in your field.

Shanna, i am in a similar position as you. I live in Nashua NH and i am NP-C in Adult-Gerontology. .that's my passion. I have worked in LTC for years and love to work with the elderly....i too am having difficulty getting a job!! I am frequently told that 'they're not hiring new grads'.... its quite frustrating especially that loan repayment are soon approaching. .. i am working as an RN to pay my bills....
Hi Shanna, I'm in the Atlanta area also, and it does seem like there is always talk that nursing is one of those professions where should always be able to find a job at any level. Especially NP where many hospitals are unable to get doctors, so NP's and PA's are heavily utilized. One problem may be that PA's and NP's are technically working under physicians, so it's like you have to have a sponsor physician to practice and bill insurance. I would recommend that you try to connect with ob/gyn clinics that want NP's or PA's, or go to more rural areas where they are having a hard time finding physicians, and where many physicians are utilizing telemedicine. I work with a psychiatrist who utilizes telemedicine for rural areas where they are lacking physicians, and his wife is a NP who works in his practice. So, that is probably the best way to break into working as a NP is connecting with a doctor who can help to guide you. This doctor's wife always confers with the psychiatrist regarding prescribing decisions because technically she is working under his supervision. Many hospitals are probably looking at the liability and risk for new NP's and PA's and the sponsoring physicians may not want to provide as much support for new NP's and PA's in busy hospital settings like they would in private clinics, or in rural facilities where there is a doctor shortage. Just some thoughts to maybe help guide you in getting started. Good luck with starting your practice.
