Frustrated and Stressed
I feel like because I went to get my degree right out of high school rather than straight into the work force I kind of messed myself up for getting a job. I chose to focus on my studies rather than get a part time. Probably not the best idea but I know my own limits and I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it. Anyways, I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. I have this degree but most places that are used to gain experience won't look at me thinking I'll ask for higher pay, that I should be someplace much better (which I appreciate) but I go to these "better" places and they don't look at me because I don't have the experience. I'm not sure what to do. I've been a temp for just over a year now, going from assignment to assignment, with large gaps in between. It's stressful not knowing if I'll have a job next week or if not when the next one will be. I've been applying to so many places I've had to submit hundreds of resumes by now and not so much as an interview. I'm open to any suggestions or recommendations or ideas. I'm super stressed and frustrated. I'm in my second temp assignment (4th total) with this company. The last time the assignment was over I was month before the next assignment and I only one interview during that time. I can't afford to have that happen again.

Your listed job skills should include researcher; data collection and collation; and expert report writer. You've got a history degree, and I'm sure you were called on to do all of those things during your "tenure" at college.

Depending on your state* If you have a bachelors or over a certain amount of credits..they will consider you as a Substitute Teacher. Its not bad money and will give you professional experience and flexibility while you continue to look :) Best of luck!! Also try Enterprise they tend to hire direct from school [college degree] to build experience.

Well what are you best skills? What are you known best for? Like in work place? Are you someone who can follow direction well or are you organized. Can you find order in chaos? Stop and calm down. Ask yourself what are my best skills? Find out and let me know. I'm very good at giving people stuff to do.

Hi Rhiannon,
I totally understand your situation but don't ever think that your education should hold you back. If anything this should help you moving forward and is a great thing to have. Experience always helps but based on what you are looking to do, a degree with be a major benefit. What types of jobs are you looking for? I can't get a good sense of what you are doing now or what your degree was in based on your Jobcase profile. It would be helpful if you filled out your profile with your experience and education so people can get a sense of what you are looking for.
I hate to say this but you messed up with school. Going to school and studying was not the bad part. The bad part was not that you were not working during that time. Most employers understand the issues of hiring college students. But they also know the rewards for both student and themselves. Often there is a mentoring that occurs and long term relationships and connections. The second is that the work history looks great. Loyalty is another product of working while in school.
I worked in schools for years. Dealing with students workers was a wash when it came to productivity. In the end, they often had an edge over other applicants because of all of the mentoring that was done.
