Office work for a female felon???

Maybe someone out there will be able to see past a piece of paper and give a felon a second chance... Please don't get me wrong... There are many places that do. Mostly in the food industry... Many in the construction business. I am a female who made mistakes that made me the strong independent woman I am today. However... It has been something that has restricted me from doing any kind of a job in any kind of a clerical or business category. I would like to find someone who could see past that paper telling my mistakes and give me a position that I can be proud of when I come home after. A place where I can look like a lady... Not just another uniform. Maybe it's wishful thinking. But it really only takes one person to make a difference. Thank you.

Hi Elonda Fleener , I'm confident you would make an outstanding office employee and co-worker and I'm sure there are employers in your area that are willing to extend a second chance employment opportunity to you. Finding those employers as you know from experience is a challenge.

This is why you need to use all the available resources and strategies to help you get hired. Think local resources first!

It would be Awesome if there was and official second chance list of companies but those list do not exist. Most companies/employers simply don't like to advertise that they hire ex-offenders.

Indiana is one of the first ban-the-box states! Employers are not allowed to ask about an applicants previous conviction status on the application and/or initial stages of the hiring process. This mean your previous work experience, skills, and talents are the first items to get evaluated with no room for bias due to you ex-offender status.

This is your moment to shine! Remember, employers are looking for people who can do the job. Will, desire, and passion to do the work isn't enough so make sure you resume and application profiles clearly articulate your proven related work experience and in demand skills/qualifications as listed on the job description.

Always make employers fall in Love with your ability to perform the job, First!

Briefly talk about your experience during the interview and highlight how those experiences have molded you into a better worker. Please keep in mind that some companies simply do not have the right insurance that allows then to hire ex-offenders to don't take their final decision personally if the job offer doesn't go your way.

Take some time to learn more about the Indiana Federal Bonding program as an employer insurance option if this becomes a hiring obstacle. See https://www.indianacareerconnect.com for more information.

Finally, reach out to your local career resource center and ask about local employers who have friendly second chance hiring practices. They will be able to refer you to hiring opportunities you can pursue more confidently.

Hope this helps Elonda Fleener .Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. :-)
