You hate your job?!!
Are you unhappy with your job or have been in the past? You’re not alone! It sometimes takes a few positions to find the perfect fit. As someone who once thought her boss was going to give her a complete mental breakdown, I totally understand. So if you’re at your wits end stop, take a deep breath, and refocus. When you’re ready to move on here are some things you need to do first!
Get your resume ready. Whether you have been at this job for 10 days or 10 years, you have gained some experience and you need to update your resume. Your resume is what makes you stand out amongst a sea of applicants. So take some time to make a list of all the skills you gained and the daily duties you carried out, even if they seem small. Then once you have compiled the list add them in!
Make a plan Ask yourself, what is going to come next? Leaving your job may grant you some momentary happiness, but not having a plan in place could also lead you to feel quite nervous and stressed. Sit down and decide what you’re going to do next. Ask yourself, how will I look for jobs? Do I have money saved up for awhile in case I don't find work immediately and for how long? Do I have some jobs already in mind? By creating a plan you will have a much easier transition!
Ask for recommendations Before heading out make sure to ask fellow co-workers if they would speak on your behalf to future employers and act as a reference. Select people who can attest to the great things you did while on the job is key. Make sure to ask for their phone numbers as well as their emails.
Explore your options Don’t turn in your resignation just yet, look around. See what options are out there for you and put yourself out there a bit. Once you know you are leaving be kind, honest, and upfront with your current employer. It’s always best to leave on a high note because future jobs will most certainly contact them!
