Is this a waste of time?
I have an interview for a seasonal warehouse worker position coming up but I’m having second thoughts about taking on this type of job. It’s not like I can’t use the money or think too highly of myself to work a manual labor warehouse job but I think having this kind of work experience on my resume is going to crush any opportunity at getting an engineering in the future which is my ultimate goal and what I went to school for. I haven’t done anything except look for work since I finished school so I’m already behind the eight ball with a 4 month gap in my resume. I think it would be easier to get good job with a gap rather than having unrelated work experience on my resume but I’m honestly not sure. Anyone willing to share some advice with me on this matter?

Usually any kind of work is good, but the seasonal jobs don't pay enough most of the time and are short lived. Depends on what company the only benefits are when you get discounts on their merchandise and they want you to spend money in the stores because you are likely to shop with them because of a discount offered. The hours are few and far between, they do not guarantee any numbers of hours and for most it is a waste of time.

If this is Amazon it is worth it... they pay great starting and as the season approches. The pay per hour goes as high as $25.00

Hi Anthony I would suggest taking it in the meantime to help pay your bills. In reference to Roger he sounds very arrogant. I have three degrees from a community college that I paid to put myself through and worked full time.I have experience in three different fields and my degrees are just as respected as a more expensive university. Economy has changed drastically in recent years and there is no shame in doing what you need to do best of luck to you☺

Don't be afraid to take the next step, any kind of income is always good.

Interviews are never a waste of time. You may not want the job or have second thoughts about it, but every opportunity in a real life interview experience allows you to hone your interview skills. Also, there may be a chance that the hiring manager may reveal other aspects of the job that you weren't aware of which may make it more appealing. Go in enthusiastically and do your best.

When I was working at a large pharmaceutical company as an admin assistant, we had many candidates with MBAs come into the company as admins just to get their foot in the door. Within a very short time, these people were promoted to jobs that matched their degree. This could be your way of getting in the door. Who knows, they might end up needing someone with your degree and you'll be right there.

Yes you are absolutely right! But even my boss that does engineering work still comes out in the yard and does garbage and manual labor! So I went to school only two yrs for electrical tech! A persons got to eat pay bills! Must people have a job for a little while and it turns into a ten yr thing and after a yr get attached to their job! They don't want to quit it's instilled into them not to be quitters! So it's a catch 22 fucked if you do and fucked if you don't! Maybe with a little luck and being at the right place at the right time! Think like them act like them! What they do (engineers) take breaks like them try hanging out with a couple find a couple friends that are employed doing the job push your self in there

In my opinion and my years of experience in IT, I wouldn't look down on you if you took a job like this to make ends meet until you could find a job in your field of study. Humility is often times a great virtue and something a potential employer may find impressive.

Hello, I understand why you might be having second thoughts however you should give it a try while still looking for something in the field that you desire. This will not only be a means to pay your bills but will also fill the lack of employment history gap. You could use this opportunity when explaining on your next interview that you are motivated and took employment not in your field to pay your bills. Best of luck!
Good Morning or Afternoon, Reading this, I can understand the thought behind it. If you are need of the job go ahead and take it, period. It doesn't mean you have to stop looking for the jobs you want in your field its just a job. You're not bound to it, but it will give cash flow and maybe experience you never knew you needed. But if you want to wait, reserve your enthusiasm for the work field you want than go ahead, just make sure you have a financial cushion to support that. Nothing wrong with having a drive to do what actually makes happy. Good Luck and God Bless, you will figure it out.
