How often do we need to update information?

I am just curious, but how often do you need to change your resume, and how often do you need to resubmit applications? If there are multiple applications for that one employer do you apply to more than one? I am trying to find a different approach to all this. Is there a class of some sort or guide we need to apply for work online? I am filled with questions today. Just trying to come up with a difference approach to all this.

I always have applied to the company more than once if the company is trying to fill multiple positions. Another words I apply if the job numbers are different even if it is the same company. Every time you change from one job to the next you should update your resume to reflect what changes have occurred. I created resumes for each industry I have worked in. Used the same format but changed the information to reflect the different objectives.

I think u don't have change it too often unless u get something very important that u think should be in the resume.

As a recruiter I like seeing a resume that is geared toward the job the person is applying for. I personally when I apply for jobs have like 3 or 4 varying resumes geared toward the industry Im applying to. Like others said updates are good if you get a new cert or recert or license so the company can see you are up to date.

I would say everytime that there is a job openning that match your espertise and you want your resume to match the required skills.

For the greatest chance of success, your resume should be tailored to each job for which you apply. This is especially true if it's being submitted online! You need to make sure the keywords in the new job description are also in your resume just to get through the automated screening. Describe your experience in a way that matches the new job... if you're applying for a management position but have never been an actual manager, highlight the parts of your role that show leadership rather than just talking about projects, for example.

Essentially, you want different versions of the same resume if you're applying for multiple positions. Yes, keep it up to date with skills, volunteering, etc as well. This may sound daunting, but do what you have to to set yourself up for success!

I think this is a great question and it's a topic we discussed at a jobsearch networking group I attended last week. The suggestion was to update you're resume whenever there's a new skill learned, certificate or course completed, or new volunteer experience. Someone mentioned they already had over 20 resumes created which is basically a new resume every time they applied for a job. That's a bit too extreme for me so I just check it before sending and make adjustments if needed.
