Hello Kristen, I was very eager to work when I was your age too. During the summer months I always had a job working as a lifeguard and never had any issues finding a public swimming pool in need of help. If you are a decent swimmer and don't mind working with kids, you should contact the local parks and recreations department within your county. They can advise you on where to take a lifeguard training course. These classes usually last for a couple of days and are not difficult to pass if you swim well. Some of the classes are even offered for free, but you must become certified in advance of applying for a lifguard position. Most of the lifeguards I worked with were teenagers and college students. Adults generally had regular jobs, so these positions were easy to get during the summer. I wish you luck on finding a job and hope that this helps you.

Hey Kristen, how are you?

I know the feeling of the run around; don't get down though, there is always hope in the horizon. I suggest you apply to a different location, arrive with application in hand between the hours of 8 am and 10:30 or 2 pm to 4, dress accordingly (please no shorts, tee shirts etc,) and represent as an individual that the business needs and can count on. Always give direct eye contact and don't be afraid to ask to speak with the manager on duty; 9 times out of 10 you'll get the hiring manager. While you application is being view, tell the manager how your always on time, eager to learn and excited to become a part of the team.

it really only takes a moment to review an application; maybe this isn't the place for you, don't be afraid to apply elsewhere.... remember, Kirsten, always appear confident and sure of you no matter how you feel, the last thing you want is to appear as complaining and weak; you will be passed over in a heartbeat...
