Direct Care Aide at Loving Arms Assisted Living

Rough times.....

I live in front royal VA and I have an administrative, customer service, dispatch, direct care background. When I lived in the city (Manassas) I made $15 easy. I just want to find a job that I enjoy doing, that I can be of help to others, and at least make $10 an hour is that to much to ask?

No, Katherine. it's not too much to ask, but ask BIGGER. Ask (keep asking) and you will receive. Seek (keep seeking) and you will find. Knock (keep knocking) and the door will open. The One Who created you has much, much more for you. Believe.

It appears in today's job market, getting a job period is challenging, let alone if you are asking for what you feel you are worth. I have many years of work experience and discovered how challenging it is to obtain your salary requirements in today's job. market. I was laid off from a job making $23 hour and I already knew when I started it would be almost impossible to get that again, I was right if it is a situation in which you need to keep the bills paid unfortunately a pay cut is what may have to be done in the interim, this was the case for me. I still keep my eyes open for new opportunities because I did not return back to school to get my degree just to make a salary I was making 15 years ago. Good Luck, try all avenues, search online, apply directly to organizations in the area online, try temp agencies they usually have customer service opportunities.

If you are not opposed to being tethered to a phone, call centers are ALWAYS looking for help and typically start at 10 to 25 an hour. Since you have phone experience, they would hire you right away. You can get promotions and they have tons of little perks like prizes, free food, and lots of others, periodically. Verizon is the only one I have experience with but there are lots. AT &T, local landlines companies, cable, satellite TV, apartment corps. These are just a few I thought of. They have awesome benefits that typically kick in within 30 to 90 days. Think outside the box, they are too numerous to list.

Hi Katherine. I know that you can make good money in northern VA but once you hit Fredericksburg area the cost of living goes down. I suggest that you try to work in northern VA and then commmute. I am not sure where Front Royal is but I live in the southern part of VA where joBS are scarce and so is the cost of living. I am trying to find a job in northern VA or just north of VA. Good luck to you!

Manager at Circle K

I have 15 yrs of customer service and 10 yrs of management experience but because I don't have a degree or diploma I'm working for minimum wage, I worked my button off for the company that made me a manager after being a part time csa, they offered me a assistant manager position within 30 days of hiring me,and then a manger within 6 months, and I trained myself, the person who was training got very sick and they left me in charge of here 24 hour store, I gave this job my life, went 17 months with a day off, lost tons of vacation time , and they fired me for something that every manager was doing as, I was asked a question could have Lied, but told the truth, they then waited 8 dayso after the fact to let me go, the person who fired me which was a district manager did the same thing I was let go for , she continues to have her job after being fired I have not been able to recover, lost everything I owned except for my clothes, I'm currently living out of bags all this happened in 2014 and 2015, but I can't get a decent paying job because I am not a high school graduate, or college degree, if you ask me when interviewing for a job not having an education shouldn't disqualify you for a position, it should able be based on experience

Oxford Contractor at Gsk

Katherine, I live around the same area and it is tough getting jobs. It seems that there are more applicants than available positions. Have you tried Target, Costco, Walmart, Macy's, FedEx, Home Depot, or Lowe's? I know some of the positions are seasonal but it helps pay the bills and gets you more employment time. Macy's and FedEx are pretty decent because once you work for them, if you do a good job, they will call you back whenever they need help. Macy's will give temps the opportunity to come on full time when positions open up because you have a work history with them. One of the challenges I find in this area is that a lot of the jobs are either for the government or government contractors and they require a current security clearance. It is very hard to get that first opportunity because the background check is very expensive and most places will hire someone with a current clearance to save the cost. Keep trying. Your job is out there. It is just a matter of time.

I feel you. They want people to be knowledgeable about the job and have certain qualifications, but don't want to pay any money. Just keep putting yourself out there and you will find the right job or at least something worthwhile. Good luck.
