However, given the competitiveness of the job market right now, it very well might be that your potential employer may have already picked out the candidates they want to interview. Still, it can't hurt to call and ask, although I'm sure some people will say that doing so might appear unprofessional or desperate. I, on the other hand, think that calling would demonstrate keenness on your part, which is a highly desirable attribute in an employee.
