Timed Out
First day on the job as a Service Associate at big box retail america!! I arrive 15 mins early clean shaved, dressed/pressed to impress, and a Colgate smile that makes people put sunglasses on to look at me. I’m excited to be at work and ready to learn!! 8 months later… I arrive to work 30 min late, un-groomed, rags for clothes on my back, and unable to crack a smile. I’m angry, tired, frustrated, and looking at the clock every 15 mins for quitting time. Sound familiar? Nothing changed at the store. Same manager’s, same customers and job responsibilities. So I ask myself… what happened? How can I rekindle the fire I had when I started?

I'm the same way, but I'm trying something new. I go thru a temp service but I am going to try and do one day to one week assignments. I figure the variety will not give me job burnout but still bringing in a income. Plus companies these days don't seem to want to direct hire a 54 yo. I never give up though, been thru alot in this job market, The key, never give up!

Sounds like you are not being challenged and/or you no longer have a creative outlet. If changing jobs is not an option then I would figure out how to get promoted so you are challenged. It might mean getting a better degree. But whatever you chose always remember to make yourself happy

My thing is work ad if ur pleaseing ur self and god together u will make a grate teem in order to work happy remeber u have to fill happy wr all have upers and downers but remeber treet ur custermers the way y want to be treeted ,love u and ur job, becuse that ur tickit to freedum from bertenz.... and if that dont work then start looking in to a more chalrging job... sometimez we out grow were we start off and grow to become a power card .... and god willbless u with a better job good luck and god bless

When God wants you to grow, He makes you uncomfortable. Maybe you should strive harder for a promotion.

Rosa is correct. Once you've done that then start by asking if there is anything else you could possibly help out with and learn. If that works then slowly work your way into another position with some diversity. But, if that isn't enough for you then start putting some feelers out there to look for a more challenging position with potential for you to grow.

Sounds like a classic case of burn-out, my friend. Have you taken any time off (vacation days) since you started? If not, do so immediately. That's what they are there for. So that you don't get to this point. Everyone needs time off! Take at least a 4-day weekend. You wil come back refreshed and relaxed. It works, trust me!

Sounds like you need to take a beach day, relax, re-focus on your goals then get back to it. Boredom on the job is a typical symptom for fast learners. You may be ready for a new challenge. talk to you boss about the next level job opportunity.
You seem bored and burnt out. I think a long weekend is a good idea, but may only be a temporary fix for a permanent problem. Is there no growth potential? Have you inquired about a more challenging position with the company? I find that I thrive on responsibility! You sound much like myself. If there's "nowhere to go" and you've hit a plateau, maybe you should start to look around for a better opportunity. Meanwhile, keep your job, try to smile those pearly whites, and be on time. You will probably need them as a reference down the line. Good Luck & Stay Positive!!
