It depends on what state you live in. In texas, your third DWI is a felony. This means your FIRST DWI will stay on your record , because they are waiting for you to eventually get popped a second, and then third time. I did time with a dude you who got his third DWI in 2011. His first was back in 1989. That should give you an indication of how long they keep shit on record down here.
