Proud MOTHER

Feeling Punished

Im a single mom who lives in a domestic violence shelter I have been here since November due too PTSD I have been building enough courage and strength to look for a job to support my six year old son and took me a few weeks but I finally receive a job offer from a grocery store Kroger in Hillsdale everything went well except for waiting for my back ground check and still waiting for it to come through I told the staff here at the shelter they told me because of my lengthy stay they told me I had leave. I know it is a for sure job opportunity. Im willing and a hard working struggling mom who wants and needs to work. Kroger is very disappointed to hear that a shelter like this to would kick out a willing to work single mother out on the street I feel like Im being punished for leaving a horrible abusive relationship and trying to do right for my son. Any suggestions?

Don't let your housing situation change your mind about getting a job. There are plenty of resources out there for single mothers of young children, especially in your situation. I'm not sure where you live but the Salvation Army can help you with housing and keep you and your son together, and they may even help you with child care while you are at work. Just keep your head up and keep trying. It will work out. Good luck at your new job! You will be fine.

What city do you live in? The shelter should be able to give you suggestions for other housing! Keeping you & your child safe and under any roof, is the #1 priority, then you job hunt some more. Most public libraries and hospitals have information about social services and housing and crisis intervention. Hospitals sometimes have shelters linked to them, especially for women with children. Don't give up!! Catholic Charities will help people in crisis, even if you are not that religion. If you tell me your city/state, I can look up some resources and phone numbers for you! I'm glad you posted. : ) Try to keep your chin up - use all of your remaining time at the shelter to make phonecalls and look for help. Also, if you go to your local Food Bank, they can help you with emergency resources. They often have job listings, charity listings, and medical help info. Sometimes they can help you apply for Social Services, or call your city's Crisis Intervention Services for you. Most hospitals have a Social Worker who can help with this, too. Later, when you job hunt again: most public libraries keep a binder of job listings, and/or post notices about on-the-job training. Reply to me, if you can...

God bless and I hope you find some where to go. They airnt to be ashamed of there selfs for trying to keep you down that's one of the biggest problems in this world today !!! Let's not help the ones whom are trying to do the right thing in life and let's go help the ones whom don't care ! Everything always seems to come easy if you don't care ! What a shame it is live in this day and age and it's only going to get worse. I wish you the best of luck and font ever give up !!!
