Female driver

I worked in corporate world for many years. I am 45 years old and really interested in getting my CDL. I know there are female drivers out there, so, I would love to hear your stories. I currently do have back issues, would these this job be hard on me?

You dont wanna do like flatbed with a bad back, but if you can sit for hours on end then this might be the job for you. My husband and I bought our 1st truck last year. I love my job, but it took me a little while to get used to being away from my family, This job isnt for everyone, it's hard and it will work on you, if you aren't in the right mindset. I wish you luck.

Trucking is hard on the back even with air ride seats, All the drivers I've known growing up had back issues, I started to get them as well do more physical loads will actually be better for you. Exercise keep muscle mass. You're enemy will be to just drive. No touch freight isn't the way to go but just don't get into anything that will stress you physically. Manage your weight and exercise and you should be okay.

If you can pass a dot physical you’ll be fine. Just don’t do flatbed

Ok, first off... Go for it!!! There are companies that have no touch loads for the most part. You're the only one who can say whether or not you can do the job. We need more women drivers so the new lady drivers will get female mentoring rather than being forced to drive with a male they don't know. Go get em!!!!

Driver Linehaul at Xpo Logistics

I had lower L4, L5 disc issues, on hydrocodone for years while working at a computer (18 yrs), tried everything but pain persisted, finally managed to wean off the drugs so I could start driving. Was very worried I wouldn't be able to do it (drive long haul), but turns out driving has been the best thing for my back, pain is virtually gone. I sit on an air ride seat in an air ride cab hauling an air ride trailer. One thing that has really helped me is to adjust my mirrors so that I have to be sitting up straight to see out of them. You use your mirrors constantly when driving a tractor trailer and this forces me to sit up straight all the time. Hope this info is helpful. Good luck!

Depends on what your back issues are . Driving long hours even with the air ride seats can be uncomfortable at times I am pretty fit but find myself getting soar at times I pull over to stretch every 2 hrs or so but some loads do not allow me to do this .

I have degenerative disc disease more than likely from driving. Use a back joy to sit on, on a good air ride seat, and hopefully it won't be too bad. I did drive some truck way back, when that weren't air ride.

I have a BA in Business and spent many years in the corporate world. Assuming your back issue isn't a dealbreaker, I would say, get going. I wish I'd gotten my CDL at 45 or sooner, instead of 58.
