I love kids!

Being around kids has always been a lot of fun for me! I did a lot of babysitting growing up and loved coming up with games to play and all that with them. Since I like watching them so much I thought it would be good to be a nanny. I’m getting ready to move to a new state to start my very first nanny job and was wondering if it is basically the same as babysitting, just longer. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi Jessica, Congratulations on your new position. This is a very rewarding one to have. I was a nanny for many years. It is much more than just babysitting. There are other responsibilities that you need to be aware of. A nanny basically steps in as a substitute parent. We do everything from getting kids ready for school, helping with homework, taking them to after school activities, preparing dinner, laundry, baths if they are under a certain age, Dr. appointments etc. The list goes on depending on what the families needs are. I did everything to make life easier for the family. You are pretty much the go to person for these children. This will take some time getting into the routine but, once you have a routine it will feel like second nature to you. You will do just fine I know it. Best wishes to you on your new journey. I don't like to say job because children are a gift and not a job. (to me anyway :-)) I went on to have 5 of my own and loved every minute.

Hey Jessica, Nannying is such an awesome job! I did that for a year and loved it! It really is very similar to babysitting. You just have a bit more of a structured schedule. Then depending on the age of the children you are watching, may need to do nap-time, which can be an interesting task. And since you are with them for so much more time, you can do a lot more activities with them. I loved going to parks, museums, libraries with all the kids I nannied.

Good luck with your move and starting this new chapter!!

I've never nannied (I'm actually terrible with kids) but maybe someone who has can offer you some advice!
