What to wear

I'm getting ready to start a new adminitrative assistant job but I honestly need nice clothes for working in an office. I don't really have a lot of money right now though to get a whole new wardrobe. Anyone have any good ideas of places I can get cheap business clothes so I look good while I start saving some money at the new job?

I agree with Goodwill. Maybe try doing a clothing swap with some friends. Invite a bunch of people to come and bring any clothes they want to get rid of and then you can all "shop" from each other.

Some great advice on here already for you, Elenor! Cosignment stores would be a really good place to check. Goodwill I have found has really good stuff and you can get a whole outfit for less than $10 sometimes.

Elenor depending on your income, there's a non profit organization that I used to take my students to called "Dress for Success", and you can get entire outfits free. They are there to help low income people get and keep their jobs, by dressing appropriately.

Also I suggest, if you know what type of position you're applying for, go by the office, company culture differs, look and see how the administrative staff is dressed.

Plus Elenor, you don't want cheap business clothes, you want inexpensive business attire. As I and others have suggested, you can get some expensive, well made gently worn clothes at a low cost to you, if you shop in the right places.

WISHING YOU CONTINUED SUCCESS

Elenor, Check local thrift stores: many well "slightly used professional clothing for very reasonable prices: you can also look into renting a professional suit; similar to the way men rent Tuxedos and the like. Check your "Yellow Pages" for clothing retailers that sell "gently used" clothing; there are many in most areas. If you really get into a bind, you could look into renting such an outfit. In most parts of the country there are some retailers that do this; you have to look into it in your area: again check your the Yellow Pages for professional clothing rentals.

Good Luck: I experienced something similar; and ended up borrowing a gray suit from a family member for an interview once. You're in great company. Look for places that advertise "gently used professional clothing and attire." Also look for firms that do clothing rentals: there are many in most areas that provide these kinds of services. . Good luck. Remember that they say: "clothes make the man." So it is safe to assume that they make the women also! All the best! I wish you well and wish you much good luck and good fortune. Keith
