Hi, six years Barista XP across multiple locations here. Getting hired as a barista is easy, getting full hours is hard. If you want to be a barista, get your food handlers ahead of applying/interviewing, demonstrate a great personality, and read up a little on the specialties of the shop you're applying to, drop some of that knowledge into your application and interview. If you want fulltime, get supervisor skills. Always be on time and on task. Supervisors are kinda the only people getting fulltime in most locations. Or take up extra shifts as often as possible. As a final note: if you're not SET on coffee, go into retail instead. Your hourly is higher and your customers are nicer, your tasks are fewer and often less gross. Took me too long to learn.

To become a full-time Barista, you should have excellent customer service skills, be able to work well in a fast-paced environment, have good communication skills, and be detail-oriented. Experience in a similar role, knowledge of coffee preparation, and being a team player are also beneficial.
