Zero Response

I’ve applied for about 50 jobs this month and no one has responded to any of my applications. Not even a thanks but no thanks email message. I even updated my resume using the keyword matching method to get beyond the tracking system that companies are using now to select applicants and nothing. How will I know what to improve with my job search without any feedback? This is so frustrating!

Claims Processor at State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance

Samantha, absolutely do not give up. July is not a great hiring month however August is. I know this only because I know how hiring is done at major companies. We use August since seasonal employees will be returning to school, interns will be completing their internships and attrition hiring requires placement by September. I also require time to acquire enough resumes to provide at least 5 interviews for each open position (which means 50+ candidates). It is a good thing that you didn't get the "thanks but no thanks" email; you are in someone's back pocket for a future call. As an aside, to obtain those 50 candidates I need at least 400 applications. When the hiring process commences for my company 50% will already be placed in a position and another 25% will either not respond to the call or turn me down immediately due to salary and workweek expectations. You did the right thing by adding keywords. Keep applying to multiple companies and keep track of your applications when those calls do start so you will know which callbacks make your own short list. Good luck in your search and I wish you well.

Hey Sam? Not to burst your bubble? The internet is not the way to find jobs. All of the job listings company's on these sites are all about themselves. The more you click the more monies they make. The more AD's that are added to your account., ever noticed that? That's how these internet job finding companies get "Their" work. It is one of the biggest scams in the history of the internet system. And You, I and "We" all fall for this nonsense. A good example; you've applied how many times? No answers? From anyone? You did the right thing by submitting your resume' and such? What you're doing is feeding somebody's (company's) server systems. You're catalogued until someone accesses this info. Then the info is pulled out almost like a deck of cards, checked to see if you an interesting person. Then, maybe a job offering. So far I've never heard of someone getting a job this way. Your best bet is to contact a live recruiter/headhunter...they're out there, and see what happens. This is called Networking. It does work big time. You are dealing direct with a live person instead so some email making outfit that doesn't have your best interests in mind. Trust me. I've been researching this for some time now. All this is doing to you is raising your hopes, only to be dashed by no results. Get yourself a real live person of a recruiter and or headhunter. Otherwise you'll be on the internet until...forever, with no substantial results to help you find a decent job. I'm a self starter....I know how these internet job companies work. They don't. I do hope some of you folks read this. Better than sitting there hoping something will happen....Be aggressive with your job search...get out in the world and work it people!! You owe it to yourselves!

Substitute at Broward Schools

Hi Samantha, a lot of us are in the same boat you are in. In this economy we dont know what employers are looking for. Experience or inexpensive labor. Good luck.

I know exactly how you feel Sam but finding the right follow-up method and being persistent is the best remedy. Try reaching out in person with some of your applications.

This is the new hiring process. Companies do not have any respect for people applying for positions. The new hiring process takes anywhere between three weeks -six months. Recruiter always sound and act rushed and impatient. When you are finally interviewed the person is usually young with no experience and will hire someone based on their looks and/or relationships.
